I am not a coffee connoisseur, but I nonetheless manage to be a little bit of a coffee snob. I like dark roasts, but not too dark. Flavorful, but not flavored. I do not like for my coffee to taste over-roasted (i.e. burnt) or stale. That said, I don't roast my own, or even grind my own. I buy beans and grind them at the store. I tend toward Italian roasts, and usually drink Americanos (espresso mixed with hot water). I take my coffee black.

On the other hand, I've been known to enjoy a cup of weak diner coffee, sitting on the hot plate for far too long, with the flavor drowned in milk (and sometimes sugar).

I was a little apprehensive when Coffee Beanery sent me some coffees for review. I needn't have been, however--while they will most likely never become my favorite coffees, they are better than many "gourmet" coffees I've tried.

We are fresh in the new year and that generally coincides with a multitude of New Year's resolutions. Have you decided to travel more, lose weight or maintain a healthy budget? Whatever your muse may be, I'd love to offer another strategy for trying something new: Cook like you've never cooked before!

I've decided to take my own advice. Thanks to a generous donation of twelve filet mignon steaks from Kansas City Steaks! This allowed for me the opportunity to put my new year's resolution into action.
