Yesterday thirty of us took the day off and headed to Lynwood, CA to give a helping hand (
make that SIXTY helping hands) to
Habitat for Humanity. Founded in 1976, Habitat for Humanity is based on the belief that that every man, woman and child should have a decent, safe and
affordable place to live. To date, they've built over 300,000 houses utilizing the principle of "partnership housing" where those in need of housing work side-by-side with volunteers.
In fact, Habitat for Humanity doesn't give houses away, ala Extreme Home Makeover--recipients are required to put in 500 hours of "sweat equity" as well as make interest-free monthly mortgage payments. We learned a bit about "sweat equity" during our short stint as construction workers as we painted, built soffits (
I know--what the @#$% is a soffit?), hung drywall, installed insulation and more.

There are many reasons I love working for Savings.com: I like my job, I work with really fun and cool people--and our office space rocks! Located in Santa Monica, my home away from home offers a convenient location (
less than a mile from where I live!), an airy, open atmosphere and a kitchen stocked full of snacks.

Last Friday, we gathered to commemorate the high points of Q1, outline goals for Q2 and to party like it's 1999! Actually, we partied like it was the 80s--complete with slap wraps, pop rocks, leg warmers and sunglasses at night...

Last week, a group of us headed to Nashville to attend
Blissdom, a blogging conference for "women who find and express their bliss by publishing online." Although the weather was cold (
REALLY cold for us weather wimpy Angelenos!) and damp, we remained safe and dry in the cavernous "biodome" setting of the Gaylord Opryland Hotel.
Check out some of the highlights of the conference:

Holidays
As we wind down the year, things are really gearing up at Savings.com. We've been working hard to bring you awesome Black Friday deals, Cyber Monday sales and super hot coupons and promo codes to save you money on your holiday shopping. The
DealPros are furiously finding discounts for hot items like PS3, Wii and Zhu zhu hamsters and
Savings Little Helpers are taking your deal queries via Twitter.
In the midst of all this madness, however, we took a brief break to celebrate all we've accomplished in 2009 (
the launch of our blog, a major site redesign, Save Up conference, etc.) at our annual holiday party.

With Black Friday rapidly approaching, there are plenty of deals
coming out that are making saving money during the holiday season
easier and easier. This time last year, the recession was in its
infancy and companies were still trying to figure out the way to
attract new customers. During the holiday season of 2008, plenty of
people were looking for deals. In fact, Savings.com saved people
almost $4.4M* during the holidays in 2008. The most popular
category was electronics and Savings.com's electronics deals saved
users over $1.5M.

It's time to end the suspense and
to let you all know who we've chosen to attend the first ever Save
Up. These lucky ladies and gentlemen will be joining us in San
Francisco on November 5th for a day of savings-oriented panels and
fun. We received many, many amazing entries, and it was very
difficult to pick just a few.
Without further ado, here are the
names of the DealPros who will be attending the Save Up next
month:

Since our community is such a vital part of

for members to submit deals, people have submitted tons of deals to
our site. So how much money have they saved each other?
Drum-roll please!
