Image by WhosThisValGirl via FlickrFor most of us, 4th of July eating is all about decadence: juicy burgers and hot dogs from the grill, potato and macaroni salad, chips and drinks in a dozen varieties. But because money and calories can add up quick, I wanted to offer some dessert choices that will still let you show your patriotism with your stomach without making you regret it the next day, because all those pre-made treats at your local grocery can really add up!

We're approaching Father's Day, and once again you have no
idea what to get your dad. He's all set on the traditional ties and socks, and
he's still working his way through the treasure trove of books you got him from
Christmas. Moreover, your parents are trying to downsize and get rid of stuff
they don't need, so the last thing they want is some new gadget taking up
space.
So how can you abide by their wishes and still get Dad something that
you know he's going to love? How about appealing to his sweet (
or salty) tooth?

Image courtesy of kafka4prez via FlickrFather's Day, on June 19th this year, is fast approaching. You've (
maybe) already got your
Father's Day gifts covered, and now it's just a question of how to spend the day.
According to seasonal advertising, your options are limited to only the most traditionally masculine of activities. You can barbecue, attend a sporting event, have dinner at the Playboy Mansion, etc. But if you're tired of doing the same activities year after year, here are a few suggestions for frugal Father's Day activities outside of the hyper-masculine box.

Father's Day is just around the corner, so it's time to start thinking of ways to let your dad know that you care about him that won't make you go broke. Dads can be easy to please if you pay attention to what they really like and find gifts that are fun or thoughtful. Your dad doesn't expect you to spend all of your money on him; he just wants to know that you remembered him on Father's Day. Some of the most meaningful gifts don't cost anything but time.

Now that Mother's Day is over and done, it's time to start shopping for the big guy. You know, Dad. Forget the ties and tools--what he wants is tech. I'm talking gadgets, gear, and guy toys. As a dad myself, I know just the right stuff to shop for.
Read on for five of my favorite ways to honor thy father.

Image by emerson12 via FlickrLast week I posted free
deals for Mother's Day, this week there are MORE!
That's right, now that the date is getting closer more restaurant deals and freebies are
popping up. This time you can get a free breakfast for mom, an IOU printable
coupon book, free Mothers Day recipes. May I suggest the Strawberry Cheesecake
Bowl? Yum!
Starbucks will have half-price frappuccinos available over the weekend,
actually that offer is available until May15th. You can send mom a free ecard from
Denny's
and Denny's will email her a coupon for a freebie.
Check the list, you'll find something you like!

The big day will soon be upon us--
Mother's Day. And what are you getting mom this year? The same card and flowers combo you've given her for the last decade? How about this time you take a step away from the floral arrangements and give mom something that will really satisfy her: food. Whether you make something yourself, take her out, or buy something unique, she'll definitely appreciate the change.

Before I had kids, I had the toughest time trying to figure out what I wanted to give my mom on Mother's Day. Would it be flowers, skincare, a spa certificate? I just didn't know. On top of that, depending on when Mother's Day landed that year, my mom's birthday was two weeks after.
Now that I have children of my own, it's fun to come up with gift ideas because I know it will be an activity my children will love. Think homemade and think simple.
Whether you're an artist, a crafter or neither, I have five gift ideas that
will make your mom smile and put a twinkle in her eye. Plus, to make
it extra special, your children can help you and take part in the whole
experience.

For those who forgot Mother's Day is Sunday, May 8th, you can still get mom some great freebies and deals
this year. You can have the kids make mom a heart flower vase or take her to a public garden for free.
There are some great Mothers Day recipes if you want to make a special breakfast or bunch. If you can't
cook there are a few restaurant deals available. There are of course free printables for the kids so they
can create the perfect Mothers Day card or gift. My favorite is the coupon book kids can give mom. Just print and
staple it together so mom can redeem them in for breakfast in bed, taking out the garbage and more.
Happy Mothers Day!

Mother's Day is just around the corner (
May 8, in case you haven't marked your calendar yet), but you've still got time to buy Mom something great.
Flowers are nice, sure, but they usually don't last more than a few days. If you want a gift that keeps on giving, head to the technology aisle.
I've rounded up five geek-chic items that are sure to please any mom.

As Allegra mentioned earlier, it doesn't take much money to make a mother feel
special for Mother's Day. Most moms just want to know that you care about them and want to spend time with you. Personal gifts are inexpensive, and they can be much more meaningful.
