It may still be September but
Halloween is upon us. It's seems these days the new holiday season
starts immediately following the last holiday. Seconds after Labor
Day was over, you could see your local Walgreens
stocking up their Halloween wares. Which is just fine because
Halloween rules. And these days there's so many more cool Halloween
decorations than when I was growing up. Kids today have it good
when Halloween rolls around.
But with all the light-up
skeletons, talking candy bowls, fake severed hands and so-on, we
need a way to pay for those Halloween
deals somehow. So today we look at some of the most
Halloweenish careers out there today. Trouble is, it's a year-round
gig, not just an October thing so it takes a special type of person
to make this their livelihood.

Shop Smarter
Last week we posted about how we are already
loading up with Halloween
deals. It's not surprising that Halloween is now celebrated
year-round given our current fascination with all things vampire
(Twilight, True
Blood, The Vampire Diaries). Even zombies have risen from
the undead with recent flicks like 28 Weeks Later, Quarantine and
Planet Terror swarming the multiplexes.
MainStreet recently posted about the vampire and zombie craze saying:
"In case you've been too busy playing with troll dolls and
collecting angels to notice, vampires and zombies have been locked
in a pop culture death match lately -- with corporations and
Hollywood studios struggling to catch up. It's not just your brains
and blood they want, but every dollar and waking minute you have
left."
With all of the Halloween movies and TV shows coming up in the
next two months, you're bound to get into the Halloween spirit.
Movies like Zombieland, Halloween 2, and Jennifer's Body will
definitely send chills down your spine and, in some cases, make you
laugh.
But enough about movies, let's talk video games. Why watch Will
Smith battle zombie mutants when you can experience the vicarious
thrill of annihilating the undead via a video game?
Here are my picks for three of the best zombie/vampire games
series out there.

Money Saving Tips
Happy Labor Day! Although it seems an oxymoron to
use the word "labor" in the name of a holiday that's usually a
blissful reprieve from work, that doesn't prevent us from enjoying
the day off. What exactly is Labor Day? You might not know this,
but it actually started as a Canadian holiday.
From trusty Wikipedia,
"The holiday originated in Canada out of labor disputes
("Nine-Hour Movement")...In 1882, American labor leader Peter J.
McGuire witnessed one of these labor festivals in Toronto. Inspired
by events in Toronto, he returned the USA, to New York and
organized the first American 'labor day' on September 5 of the same
year."
In addition to celebrating the drive and ingenuity of the
American worker, let's face it: Labor Day is a day celebrating the
de facto end of summer and transition into fall. They say that
spring is the time for "spring cleaning." Well, fall may be the
time for "fall saving." Chances are you spent a tad more than you
wanted to for your summer vacation, so now you're looking for ways
to cut costs before the holiday shopping season.
Here are some tips to help you do just that:

Spotlight Deals
Even though Labor Day originated
in Canada, Americans have taken the concept and run with it ever
since it became a federal holiday in 1884. While its original
intent was to recognize the labor workers with a day of parades and
celebrations, Labor Day weekend has now become synonymous with
barbecues, beach days, and major sales.
In the spirit of the latter, here are our top 10 Labor Day
coupons. These deals are good this weekend only, so be sure to jump
on it!

As we enter into the dog days of August and move
ever closer to autumn, we wistfully watch the summer slipping away.
One thing I won't miss about July, however, is all the "Christmas
in July" promotions. A recent article in the L.A. Times talked
about how although it "tisn't the season," Christmas
wares were being used to inspire sales and we saw quite an
influx of Christmas in July deals here at Savings.com.
Personally, I can't wrap my head around stores playing "Jingle
Bells" and "Let it Snow" while it's sunny and 85 degrees
outside...

Free entertainment on the 4th of July is a given,
right? Come sundown, just hightail it to the nearest lake or park,
sit back and get ready to ooh and aaah. Not so fast, Yankee Doodle
Dandy. According to this post at Bargainist.com, plenty of cities
and towns across the US are canceling
their pyrotechnics this year, citing budget concerns and
general economic malaise.
What's a thrifty patriot to do? Keep reading, we've got you
covered.

Mom. The word evokes so many things: apple pie,
comforting hugs and the endless supply of motherly
wisdom handed down from generation to generation. Like my
mother's classic rejoinder to our plaintive question
"Why?":
"Because I said so!"
Whether it is the admonishment to "eat your vegetables"
or the succinct reminder that "life isn't fair," mothers
have been there to guide and protect us through childhood and
beyond. With Mother's Day in less than two weeks (Sunday, May
10th!), you can show your appreciation for all Mom has done for
you.
Here are just a few ideas to make the day extra special for the
Mom (or "Moms") in your life:

So you fell victim to the ol' whoopee cushion, did you? Or maybe
you've only just become aware of the 'Kick Me' sign taped to your
back. Possibly you planned to console yourself with a big cup of
coffee, but found only an empty coffee canister with an 'April
Fools!' note at the bottom. How is it that the same heavily
suspected culprits remember this blasted day every year?! It's
uncanny and most unfortunate. Luckily, here at Savings.com we've
discovered a little retail therapy thanks to our awesome
merchants.

There are some pretty well-known rabbits out there: Bugs Bunny,
Roger Rabbit, Bambi's BFF Thumper, Alice's Wonderland quarry and,
of course, Peter Cottontail--aka the Easter Bunny. With Easter in
less than two weeks, Mr. Cottontail (or "Pete" as he's known to his
close friends) is just a hop, skip and a jump (okay, maybe just a
hop, hop and another hop) away, so it's time to get the eggs
colored, the baskets filled and the jelly beans counted.
At Savings.com, we want you
to save the hunting for the Easter eggs so we're putting our best
Easter deals out in plain sight:
