Although we're one week away from Black Friday and the "official" kick-off of the Holiday season, for many of us it's not really Christmas until we watch our favorite holiday movie or TV special. Over at TVCrunch, they've got a pretty comprehensive schedule of Holiday specials, so you can make sure you don't miss out on a beloved Christmas story.
I've listed a few of my best-loved programs. See if yours is among them:

Thanksgiving is a very special time of the year. For some, it's
the only time they get to spend with distant relatives and extended
family. That can get pretty stressful if you're the one hosting
Thanksgiving.
Here are some easy ways to help relieve that stress:

Giving has always been in my nature. It was something I was taught
growing up and it is something I teach to my children as well. We
eagerly anticipate the Salvation Army Christmas Tree at my house
and my son carefully chooses that boy or girl we are going to help
that year. I put extra coins in my pocket during the holidays for
those red buckets we are sure to walk by when going to the grocery
store.
Well, this year I am taking it a step farther and buying some of my
family members charitable gifts. Santa will still be visiting our
house with the video games and the hottest toys of '09, but the
ritual of buying my brother a cool pair of boxers every year is
getting old.

Last week I posted part one of the Top
Ten Electronics Gifts for 2009 covering my picks for numbers
ten through six. And now we have, live and in color, without
further ado: THE TOP FIVE.
Pause for applause.
Cue Queen's "We Are The Champions." Thank you, thank you. Okay,
enough with the second stage comedy, let's dive right in.
Kicking things off this week in the number five spot:

The Holidays are approaching and that means you no doubt have a
few eggnog laden nights in your future. It's the time of year where
you'll be hopping from party to party, trimming trees, giving
thanks, collecting gelt, or just being merry with friends. But with
all the expenses of gift giving and travel, who wants to add a
Holiday party wardrobe to your list of expenses?
Not you, Savvy Saver!
With just a few simple accessories, you can wear the same basic
dress to any occasion. Save money and time--and look great doing
it.

With times already being tight, the advent of the holiday season
can add even more stress to a household on a budget. In addition to
the expense of family presents and holiday meals, showing your
appreciation for the hairdresser, mailman, assorted teachers and
tutors and anyone else who comes to mind can leave very little in
your wallet to celebrate. Luckily, there are still some holiday
traditions that don't cost a thing. I've gone on a virtual trip
across Europe to gather some of the best ones for you.

I recently read that the
average American adult with a credit
card racks up $1000 in debt during the holiday season each
year. And the average two-parent household
spends about $1500 on gifts
annually. With such a large percentage of holiday gifts being
purchased on credit, it's an indicator that typical American
holiday spending is more than we can afford and out of control.
When we celebrated my first child's first Christmas a couple of
years ago, we didn't know what to get such a young baby, so we just
got her a couple of smaller items.

1. Make a list of everyone you need to shop for.
2. When you are out shopping, make sure you are equipped with store
coupons. Such as % off or $ off coupons. I was recently at the Mall
and there were coupons to be found for all your favorite stores. If
you do not already have a coupon, ask the sales associate if they
know of any current coupons or promotion that your favorite store
is participating in.
3. Save your receipts in a safe spot in case item goes on sale, or
you change your mind on the gift giving.
4. Use manufacturer coupons on DVDs, toys and more!
5. Don't buy something just because it is on sale--make sure you
know what you are going to do with the item before you buy it.
6.

then it’s time to make some quick holiday shopping cash. Here
are five ways to put some money in your pocket so you can leave the
credit cards at home.
1) Get rid of your dated gadgets. If
you’ve got an old MP3 player, cell phone or digital camera

In today's tight economy, more consumers than ever are looking for
alternative ways to stretch their Christmas shopping dollar. The
key to saving money when shopping retail is to find the deals in
advance and stick to your budget. With proper planning, you won't
be tempted to pay full price for any of your gifts.
The early arrival of Black Friday this year offers consumers more
time for holiday budget planning. It seems that the traditional day
after Thanksgiving mega-deal day, has been turned into an entire
season. Some stores started as early as Halloween with their 'Black
Friday' savings.
Along with Black Friday, shoppers can also look forward to Cyber
Monday online shopping deals. Many websites list stores and their
Black Friday/Cyber Monday deals for your convenience. When ordering
online, many payment screens have a space to input a coupon code
for additional savings. Many times, you can quickly pop onto a
coupon forum website and find a valid coupon code.

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday because it is pure. It is about
getting together and enjoying company. But somehow each year I hear
of someone stressing about the who, what, where, when and whys. If
it is all left up to one person, naturally the task will bury them.
With luck and a bit of delegating, some of the duties can be
farmed off to others in attendance. Just remember that the purpose
of the day is bigger than any bird on the table and the impression
you give is more about the company you provide to others, not the
jello mold.

With Black
Friday fast approaching and the holidays right around the
corner I thought I'd highlight some great green gifts that might
not be on your list, but would make a great edition, particularly
for that hard to shop for fuddy duddy. These trendsetting green
gadgets and gizmos aren't only environmentally conscious, but
they'll also turn your friends green with envy.

The Holiday season is upon us. Time for mistletoe, eggnog,
brisket and big savings. It's a great time to start stocking up on
gifts for everyone in your life. I personally love giving and
receiving bath products. They are always useful, they're not
fattening, and--through the magic of gift sets and promo
codes--they are a fabulous bargain.
There's a perfect gift of beauty for everyone on your list.
Check it out!

If you're like me, you can't cook to save your life and you're
exceptionally cheap. Okay---you're probably not like me, but I'm
sure you appreciate saving money, right? Of course you do!
For me the holidays have historically been about bouncing around
between Denny's and IHOP, but this year I've decided to try
something new. Not only am I attempting to host a great holiday
meal without cooking any of it, I'm trying to do it for cheap.
Impossible, you say? Hold your tongue, doubting Thomases!
Here's how you can accomplish this feat with a few quick clicks

Although the Christmas creep has been causing an ongoing battle
between Jack Frost and Jack-o-Lanterns, the traditional start of
the holiday shopping season has been the day after Thanksgiving,
aka "Black Friday." But according to an article on Mainstreet,
Black Friday has morphed into "Black
November".

Ah, Thanksgiving. Such a
cornucopia of culinary delights. Such a delightful melange of
seasonal flavors. So utterly impossible to match with
wine.
You can pair each individual
Thanksgiving dish with a wine, of course. But finding a wine to
complement the whole meal is a different story. You may have herbal
notes in the stuffing, buttery mashed potatoes, marshmallow-y yams,
white or dark meat. And let's face it, one tart mouthful of
cranberry sauce and the whole wine pairing plan gets shot to
heck.
So what can you do, besides
pretend you forgot to buy cranberry sauce? Choose a crowd pleasing
favorite that goes with the widest range of flavors.
We've got your list
here.

Readers of the Savings.com blog
will of course recall my post from a few weeks back entitled The
Sinister Six, in which I detailed six haunted destinations to
visit this Halloween. Well, one reader was not completely pleased
with my post. He would have preferred I write about a slightly
different topic, namely haunted houses.
I quote:
"i have an idea for another Halloween article. you say the
best haunted houses. I cant do the research thats your job but i
have some suggestions. and by haunted houses i mean like the kinds
that has people in it trying to scare you. not like with real
ghosts..."
The displeased reader is my
eleven-year-old nephew, and I would like to state unequivocally
that I did not ask him for any research help, so I don't know why
he has to go and take that attitude. But Haunted Houses is a pretty
good idea. So, starting with my nephew's #1 choice, here are The
Frightening Four Best Haunted Houses to visit this
Halloween.

Halloween travel can be kooky,
spooky, cozy and fun! Many popular resorts and amusement parks
offer Halloween packages for couples and families. For travelers
looking for fun yet inexpensive getaways to popular destinations,
Travelocity offers Halloween trips under $299 including destinations in
several US cities.
For travelers who prefer to take
the road less traveled, there are plenty of options, including
hotels built in caves, treehouses, ice, and one that offers coffins
as beds.

With Halloween fast approaching
there are many tempting costumes floating around local convenience
stores, but often we buy those costumes and throw them away, not to
mention many of them are constructed with toxic dyes that pollute
waterways and petroleum products that require drilling. This
Halloween, why not go crafty and make your own green costume? Or
gather some recyclable materials to whip up something
new.
Whatever you're searching for for
your green Halloween, we're here to help.

Halloween is not the most
distinguished of holidays. It's hard to look elegant in a Freddy
Krueger mask or as a "Sexy Corpse Bride." Or "Sexy M&M." Or
"Sexy Swashbuckler." Or "Sexy
Tin Woman." I swear, I am not making these up!
So what's a refined hostess to do
when Halloween rolls around? What can she serve that's
sophisticated, not sophomoric--like dry ice in the punchbowl? Or
worse, a floating hand in the punchbowl. In short, what Halloween
booze won't insult your (or your guests)
intelligence?
