Recently we posted about our upcoming site
re-launch. We've been working super hard and are really excited
about the new design and functionality. No doubt some of you are
dubious about it--after all, "new and improved" is a staple
marketing tactic.
You won't have much longer to wait until the new Savings.com is unveiled, but until
then let's take a look at some examples of when "new and improved"
wasn't vs. when it actually lived up to the hype:

Turns out I should have paid more attention to
how-to guide at Consumerist about expiration
dates. I bought a "new" toothbrush at Bed,
Bath and Beyond over the weekend, only to get home and find it
marked with an expiration date of 1/07/2008.
What? Toothbrushes EXPIRE? Before they're even used?

This past week, a big group of us from
Savings.com headed to New York City on a couple of different
missions. One team attended the LinkShare Symposium East, which Tom
talked about in his post
a couple weeks ago. I was part of a second team that was in the
city to meet with some great people who are interested in getting
the word out about our company. Loren and I met with people from
all sorts of publications, and they all seemed stoked to hear about
Savings.com, the great things we're doing and the exciting things
we're working on.

Bargainist recently had a great post about bad
habits sucking your wallet dry. It got me thinking about some
of the things we all do that sabotage our efforts to spend money
wisely, live within our budgets or save for the future. And so I
compiled a list of Seven Deadly Savings Sins...
Which one is your Achilles heel when it comes to money?

Last week I explored where people
drew the line when it came to economizing. My co-workers
answers were illuminating, but they got me to wondering about the
flip side of the coin: What won't you pay extra for?
Here's what my fellow deal aficionados had to say about that:

When
money is tight, the first order of business is cutting out the
luxuries. Brown bagging it instead of eating out, do-it-yourself
pedicures, buying generic instead of brand name. But for some of
us, there is that one thing we refuse to economize on.
I polled my co-workers at Savings.com to see where exactly they
drew the line when it came to cutting back expenses.

Over at the Huffington Post, Lisa Earle McLeod
writes that fiscal
prudence might be the new "cool".
If that's the case, we have cause to feel pretty good about what
we're doing here at Savings.com. After all, we think that
there's nothing cooler than scoring a great deal!
We'd like to know what you think: in these tough economic times,
has saving become the new "black?"
