Wacky Product of the Week: Self Table Tennis

I hate sports. I know that living in Southern California this goes against all the laws of nature--which include but are not limited to rooting for either the Angels or the Dodgers and getting excited about things like the Superbowl (I like the Puppy Bowl...)--but really, sports just aren't my thing. I have broken about six fingers, torn some ligaments, and had various other injuries during my childhood, almost all of which were sports-related, so yeah. Me + sports = no thanks.

However, table tennis? That's a sport I can get excited about! The sound of the ping-pong ball, the whoosh of the paddle, the sweat on my brow. Ah yes, table tennis, the game of champions!

So imagine my excitement when I found this winning item from Gizmine: Self Table Tennis. Read More »

Planning for Future College Tuition Costs: Getting a Higher Education for Free?

If you have children or you yourself are planning on receiving a higher level of education at a university, then I'm sure you're seeing dollar signs.

When I was in high school, the constant question was if I would attend a public or private institution and if it was in-state or out-of-state.  If I went to an in-state public school, it would be a lot cheaper than the in-state private school and the in-state private school would be cheaper than the out-of-state private school, primarily because of room & board.

Now with children, I constantly worry about saving enough money for their education.  If it's $50,000 a year to attend a private university now (including room & board), how much will it be when my 5 and 2 year-old attend college?

Surprisingly, your child may be able to attend a top tier private university for FREE.   Read More »

If you're like me and you are online more than 8 hours every day (even if I didn't work from home, I guarantee I'd spend half my life on this new-fangled contraption)...AND you have two cats who like to make beds out of your laptop's warm keyboard (or curled up against the vents or in my lap looking at the computer or sitting on top of the desktop unit...really, they're not picky), then you know how messy your work space can get sometimes. With pets, the usual dirt and dust, and even eating at your desk, your desktop can be a really messy place.

But I'm here to help. Well, okay, I'm not really going to do anything except point you in the direction of this week's wacky product, the Dust Extinguisher Mini Desktop Vacuum.

Try saying that ten times fast. Read More »

I love Fall. And I love Halloween even more! And Fall means it's nearly Halloween, so you can imagine my delight at seeing all the creepy crawlies coming out in stores near you. I'm already shopping for my Halloween costume (no clue what I should be yet, alas...) and have RSVP'ed to a party and signed up for the Halloween Trick-or-Treat at Disneyland (yes, I am an adult).

So yeah, totally excited about this time of year and all the goodies that come with it, like cool fall weather, holidays like Halloween and Thanksgiving....and of course tiny monster plushies that pretend to eat your flesh.

Rihanna's Hair and Other Examples of Extreme Celebrity Beauty Spending

There have been some occasions where I've walked out of a store and felt like I just spent too much money. I'd probably never feel the same kind of buyer's remorse as Rihanna if I spent $3,300 per day on a hairstylist. A recent article reported that Rihanna shells out almost $23,000 a week to her hairstylist to keep her look fresh and original. Clearly, money is not an issue.

Beauty products and services, especially the high-end kind, don't come cheap these days. And when money isn't an object for the rich and famous, here's how some of them get their beauty fixes: Read More »

I will level with you, you really aren't savings much money by changing the oil in your car yourself. With oil changes starting at around $20 at most places, you will have a hard time spending less on just the oil and filter if you are doing it yourself. Yet many of us still do it that way.
