If you have been following along, you may have seen my recent review of the
Troy-bilt electric garden cultivator. I wasn't just tilling for the hell of it, or even for the sake of writing the review. Nope. I have a little vegetable garden, even though it's one of my least favorite food groups. I grow them, but it's my wife who enjoys them. I eat them, but I'm not going to lie and say I like it.
Of course, now you're wondering why? Why would a guy who races
motorcycles and
cars, and does his own
plumbing and
roofing want to dig, water and pull weeds, especially when he doesn't even like vegetables?

Image by Kaptain Kobold via FlickrLast year I attended an American Heart Association event to learn about heart health. Ever since then, I've been thinking about one aspect in particular: sodium. We eat too much. The
daily recommended amount it about 1,500 milligrams, and the average American consumes over 3,000 milligrams a day.

It's no secret that I'm a huge Harry Potter fan. Some might say I'm "mental" about the series. Books, movies, collectibles, memorabilia, Wizard wear--I can't seem to get enough! Sitting in front of me, I've got the Deathly Hallows symbol on a chain, two wands, a Pygmy Puff named Mortimer,
The Tales of Beedle the Bard, a copy of the Quibbler, a Marauder's Map...need I go on? (
I won't even get started on the fact that I have a cloak and uniform upstairs)
After waiting in line all day yesterday for the midnight showing, I am not even close to Harry Pottered out. So today, I am sharing a cool Harry Potter tech idea that's in the works at the moment and within reach for us Muggles to get our hands on too: moving photographs.

It's that time of the year again. The kids are on summer break, the weather is hot and you are doing more things outdoors. So what does this mean? More exposure to the sun.
While the sun is always out 365 days a year, it seems that exposure to the sun increases in the summer months. And the most dangerous hours to be out in the sun is between 10-4pm. I don't know about you, but that's a huge chunk of time that my children want to do all things outdoors. Whether it's swimming, taking a small trip to the beach, running around in the park --it usually falls between those hazardous hours.
So how do you decide what sunscreen will be the best one for your child?

How many of you sit for 8 hours a day, slouched over at your desk while staring at the computer? Most of us who have office jobs don't really have a choice in that matter. I am one of those office workers that sits at her desk all day long. However, I do try to move and walk around every 20 minutes or so. Recently,
Mashable posted a great infographic about the
dangers of sitting all day. One of the risks is a 40% increase in dying within the next 15 years even if you exercise! Another is weight gain.
Shocking? Yes. But, don't fret, there is a solution to this. I present to you: The Standing Desk.

Image by allyrose18 via FlickrHow do you get your protein when it's too hot to eat a hot meal? I noticed recently that I've been skipping protein, and while we don't actually need it at every meal, it's not something I want a deficiency in either.
Here are some ideas I've come up with:

Telling time can be really hard. But it doesn't have to be. If all those numbers weren't in the way, I think it would be much easier and the makers of the
Kaidoku LCD Word Watch over at
TokyoFlash.com agree with me. Instead of an old plain Jane watch with a clock face, 12 digits, and two hands, this watch minimizes your time-telling efforts by letting you read the time with words instead of numbers.

Now that summer is in full force, it's important to protect
yourself from the sun. Many commercial sunscreens contain
ingredients that can cause cancer, which I find to be totally
ironic. Choosing a natural sunscreen and following some sun
safety tips can help limit your risk for skin cancer.
