Happy October! Fall is officially
in session and that means shorter days, warmer clothes and a mad
dash towards the impending holiday season. October 1st also kicks
off National Breast
Cancer Awareness month. Initiated in 1985, National Breast
Cancer Awareness month has raised awareness of the deadly
disease--championing education, research and early detection. The
"Pink Ribbon" campaign has also raised a lot of money to support
efforts for a breast cancer cure.
Among the many activities and
promotions occurring this month, there will be a number of fund
raising events for breast cancer charities. Millions of people
will be out and about as they run for the cure, walk for the cure
or even shop for the cure.
That's right--I said, "Shop for
the Cure." Quite a number of stores are participating in National
Breast Cancer Awareness month with special "Pink" products and
promotions of which of portion of the proceeds get donated to a
breast cancer charity.
Here's a list of all the deals we
currently have to support Breast Cancer Awareness:

On August 20th, we announced
a contest on our blog in which we planned to give away a copy
of Adobe Premiere Pro CS4 for Windows to a person randomly selected
from our list of entrants. After about two weeks of receiving blog
comments, Facebook wall posts, and RTs on Twitter, we received a
total of 167 entries.
When I asked random.org to
choose a number between 1 and 167, our winner emerged.
And the winner is...

Adobe Photoshop is arguably the most recognizable
imaging software on the market today. The brand is the popular
favorite among amateur and professional photographers, graphic
artists, digital painters, and designers the world over. Which is
why have plenty on Adobe
coupons for you to choose from. When it comes to image
manipulation and enhancement, Adobe Photoshop is hands-down the king above all other
similar software options.
Here are some reasons why:

Choosing a wine for yourself can be intimidating,
let alone choosing for someone else. And when that someone else is
your hero, your mentor, the man who taught you to throw a baseball?
Well, you know he'll love you no matter what, but you don't want to
make any mistakes. You're familiar with matching wine with types of
food. Here's some suggestions to match wine with your type of
Dad:

You've no doubt heard by now about the impending
switch from analog to digital as it pertains to your television
viewing. Otherwise known as the DTV Conversion, (trust me, it's
not as ominous as it sounds), this federally mandated switch
was originally scheduled to take place on February 17th of this
year. It was pushed back to June 12th to allow everyone a chance to
purchase the necessary equipment. With that date fast approaching,
here's the no-frills, bottom-line of why this is important to
you.

Once upon a time, store owners allowed their employees to share
their deep discounts with friends and family members to create
small, personal sales. Over time, this nepotistic practice spread
to friends of friends and to friends of the family, and eventually,
it grew into what we know today as the Friends & Family Sales
that so many well-known merchants hold each year. We here at
Savings.com have a few Friends & Family sales to share with our
"friends and family"...our community.

There are those of us who seriously scored on Valentine's Day. I
mean in that in a purely wholesome way, of course. Maybe there was
a whole field of flowers, a visit to the local jeweler's or a
romantic moment on some white, sandy beach. For the rest of us,
there is April 28th: Kiss Your Mate Day. This is a chance for all
the frogs we kissed to finally turn into princes or croak.

While we're dedicated to saving
money here at Savings.com, like many people today we're also
interested in saving the planet. Whether it's recycling, using
reusable bags when shopping or replacing regular bulbs with the
energy-saving compact fluorescent version, there are many little
things you can do that will add up to make a big difference.
So with Earth
Day approaching (April 22nd), we thought we'd alert you to ways
you can get involved and celebrate our big, beautiful planet!

It's almost time for corsages, ball gowns, rented tuxes, limos,
and awkward slow dances. There are whispers of dates, courts, kings
and queens filling the air. It's the event every high school girl
dreams about...it's prom night. Sadly, this year many high
schoolers, like the high school junior in this recent letter to Ask Amy, may not be able to
experience this once (maybe twice) in a life time ritual because
their families have been forced to cut back on unnecessary
expenses. However, before prom gets fully cut out of the budget, I
want to share a few prom deals that could help you save enough on
the prom night essentials to make it fit into the family
budget.

The Masters Golf Tournament kicked off yesterday. That's right,
I called it a "tournament." I prefer to reserve the term
"Championship" for the final game in a sport that has post-seasons.
You can't just label any random contest a "Championship" just
because you think it's important.

According to an article in the Washington Post, the Post
Office is running out of money. This isn't surprising given the
dominance of email as a form of communication. As it stands now,
our mailboxes are relegated to holding bills, catalogs and junk
mail. You know how good it feels on those rare occasion when you
open your mailbox and find an actual card or letter from a
friend?
Well, this is the month to celebrate that long-lost art!

Forget about the roses - it's time to stop and smell the
daffodils! As one of the first flowers to bloom in spring, the
daffodil is known as the birth flower of March and is a symbol of
rebirth that has been cherished for hundreds, if not thousands of
years. In fact, this flower is so lovely to behold that...

Never underestimate the power of shiny objects - especially
aquamarine! This birthstone for March is known for its gorgeous
clear, blue color (hence its name) and was thought by ancient
Romans to have been sacred to the sea god Neptune. They believed
the stones washed ashore after falling from the jewelry boxes of
the sirens. This further connection to Neptune and the sea made
Aquamarine a favorite among early sailors, who would engrave the
stones with the image of Neptune and wear them as talismans of
protection while at sea. Well, not all of us at Savings.com know
how to sail, but that certainly doesn't stop us from coveting an
aquamarine 'talisman' of our own; purely for its protective
properties, of course.

Ah, what's in a name? Ha! This is clearly a question asked by a
dude who went by one of the coolest names of all. For those of us
born under less lucky stars (or perhaps named for the more generic
ones) today is the day to break free from the confines of a more
average existence. Today is the day to say to the world: "I am no
longer John. Here now stands Jamiroquai!" or "Heather? Please! I'm
so clearly a Denise." For today (insert drum roll) is National
'Joe' Day - giving you the opportunity to change your name, if only
for today.

March 20th marks the Vernal Equinox (aka "first day of
Spring") and it's also been designated as "Proposal Day." Created by John
Michael O'Loughlin, Proposal Day is intended to give long-standing
relationships that little extra push towards matrimony. O'Loughlin
chose the Equinox because "day and night are of equal length
worldwide, symbolizing the equal efforts of the two required to
comprise the successful marriage."
