Klingons are a fierce warrior race with horrible skin issues. Have you seen their foreheads? Wrinkles and crinkles. Now, before you get all in a tizzy and state that is what makes them such fierce warriors, face it. They look old. Uh, about Klingon faces...they could use a little sun block lotion, seriously! Klingons are in desperate need for skin care products from the SkinStore. Read More »

In something of a 180 from last week when I discussed the financial merits of the Paleo diet, this week I wanted to talk about grains. It's easy to get stuck in a rut of pasta-rice-bread as the only carbs/starches in your meals (ignoring, of course, the fact that many other foods contain carbohydrates). But there is a whole world out there of alternative grain options.

Let's explore it a bit.

Five Simple and Cheap Ways to Jazz Up Your Drinking Water

We've all heard that drinking 8 glasses of water a day is essential for your health. And how many of us actually achieve that goal? I think I'm up to 6 glasses a day. However, a doctor recently wrote in the British Medical Journal that drinking 6-8 glasses a day is "thoroughly debunked nonsense" especially since there is no scientific evidence to support this theory.

Sure, you don't medically have to drink 8 glasses of H2O, but drinking at least 1.5 liters a day is still good for flushing out toxins and keeping your body running smoothly. I hear many people complaining that water is boring and tasteless, so here's a list of easy and cheap ways to jazz up your water. Read More »

Harry Potter is the most famous wizard in the wizarding world but during the summers, he lives in the non-magic world with his uncle's family. He cannot practice magic there. Mostly spends most of his time alone in his room. Maybe if Harry had something fun to read the summers would not seem so long and boring.

What books would Harry Potter then buy at Barnes & Noble to pass the time? Read More »

Is the EA Online Pass the Future of Console Video Game Pricing?

Sitting here holding in my hands an early copy of EA Sports' NCAA Football 2012 (the game officially drops on July 12th), I'm reminded of the new state of online gaming that is quickly becoming the norm. Included with every copy of the game is a code or online pass that allows you to access various online features. This is free with the purchase of a new game. But, if you buy this game or games that feature some form of pass used, you'll have to pay an additional fee.

As we look at what's down the road for video gaming, the future looks to be slightly more costly. Read More »

This week, inspired by Pinterest yet again, I created two summer salads with distinctly different ingredients, all in season and utterly delightful. Read More »

Kayaking and Canoeing Equals Affordable Fun

I was resistant to trying ocean kayaking.  I had been river canoeing and river kayaking over 15 years ago with an experienced friend and I was a little afraid to get into a single kayak on the ocean by myself.  I was worried that my not-so-strong arms would give out and that I'd have a hard time getting back to shore.  I went ahead and gave it a try and I had a blast!

So welcome back to the blog Formerly Known As The Yasar and Guy Traveling Video Game Smart Alec Review Show. Or The FKATYGTVGSAR Show as we like to call it around here. (Rolls right off the tongue doesn't it?)

Lame attempts at humor aside, I promised you guys a review of Crysis 2 this week and by goodness I aim to keep my word. Just, uh, not this week. Life happened, as it is want to do, and my ability to zone out and game to bring you the best review of Crysis 2 on the net simply fell victim to the limits of time. So, mea culpa and I promise to get that up next week for sure.

Instead of a review, I'm going to talk more about discounted gaming options. In particular, I'm going to give my two cents on recent Sony and Microsoft discount video game releases via the Playstation Network and Xbox Live. Read More »
