At EcoStiletto, we always cry at weddings. After all, the typical U.S. wedding is not just an occasion for opulence and elegance--it's also an occasion for excessive resource use, unchecked wastefulness and extreme environmental impact. "
The typical American wedding typically includes things like conflict-sourced diamonds set in gold mined with cyanide--the furthest thing from a representation of true love," said eco-wedding planner Paige Anderson Appel of Los Angeles, CA based
Bash Eco Events.
Paige recommends checking in with carbon-offsetter TerraPass'
wedding carbon-footprint calculator when planning your nuptials, making
Organic Bouquet your go-to, and avoiding traditional wedding staples like pesticide-laden gowns, asthma-inducing paraffin candles, tree-gobbling invitations and non-recyclable gifts and favors.
No wonder we weep.
Wish your big day could have a smaller footprint, ecoista? Read on.

Welcome back fellow viewers of the strange and bizarre. Here we are at the end of another week, back for another blog about the wacky and strange in the world of gadgets. This week, I actually wanted to step away from the snark podium this column usually finds me on and discuss something that actually looks pretty cool. It also has the benefit of being environmentally-conscious to boot.
Without further ado, check out these cool OrigAudio Speakers.

Let's all take a moment and applaud the casual gamers who ran out and bought the cheapest system on the market. Clap, clap, clap for all of those who bought basically a less impressive PS2, painted white, with jerky motion controls. We here embracing actual, innovative, stunning, and powerful next-gen gaming salute you...and feel sorry for your reluctance to join the 21st century gaming revolution.
Seriously, the picture above alone should be enough to illustrate why we feel that the Wii is most definitely NOT a next-gen system.

There is no doubt that Oscar night gets a fashion gal like me all in a tizzy. The gowns, oh, the gowns! When else can someone get away with wearing a swan, or partially exposing her breasts, or starting a new trend in the blink of an eye? Okay, so there are also always some major misses. But more than anything else what I like to look for at the Oscars is how they will affect spring fashion. Let's take a look.

Every magician has their bag of tricks, and to see some of the before and after transformations at The Makeup Show LA, I'm convinced makeup artists could qualify for entry to The Magic Castle. I asked some makeup artists what magic they hid in their makeup kits, and a few of them spilled. When asked what mistakes most women make when putting on their makeup and one artist said "
Do you have three hours?"
I whittled down the tips and tricks to make putting on your face a disappearing act for your blemishes and wrinkles, so your makeup works magic.

Last Thanksgiving, I was sitting around the table at my parents' house in a post-stuffing torpor when my sister-in-law asked me what my favorite type of wine is. Without hesitation, I answered "
Champagne!" She expressed disbelief at this, saying that she hated it. Now it was my turn for disbelief. I asked when she had had a bad experience with Champagne, to which she answered, "
I guess just at a few weddings. That's the only time I ever have Champagne."
The heads around the table nodded in agreement. How could this be, I wondered. How could the most delicious, food-friendly and fun member of the wine family be relegated to a few reluctant sips at the most formal of celebrations? It's nothing short of tragic!
If you're like my sister-in-law and believe Champagne is only for the rarest and/or stuffiest occasions, read on! I'm out to prove that Champagne is appropriate any old time. And, this being the Savings.com blog, you know I'll be concentrating on sparklers that give you the most bang for your buck...

If you're anything like me, you like you like time to pass quickly while exercising. Whether it be a television in the gym, your iPod blasting tunes in your ears, or talking with a friend, the time goes much quicker when you're not staring down the calorie-tracker on the treadmill.
My favorite distraction is my iPod. Whether I'm listening to Taylor Swift, Elton John or The Little Mermaid soundtrack, I have my headphones in and am humming along while I train. More often than not, though, instead of listening to my iTunes playlists, I'm listening to a podcast.
A podcast is digital audio or video file is released through iTunes or a host website. You then download it to your media player. You can learn a language, master English grammar, learn to budget, hear the news, or even download workout music for your training program.
In my current podcast rotation, I have four different exercise-specific series:

This Sunday in Los Angeles is an event that is Christmas, New Years and senior Prom all combined. I am talking of course about the 82nd annual Academy Awards, otherwise known as "Oscar night." Twenty-four awards (
not including almost half a dozen "special" awards...) will be parceled out over a mind (
and buttocks) numbing three to four hour time period. Or even longer if you tune into the pre-Oscar Red Carpet coverage...
Given that the Oscars are the finale to a long drawn-out awards season that starts with the Golden Globes and includes the Director's Guild awards, Writer's Guild awards and Screen Actor Guild awards, much of the anticipation and mystery surrounding "
Who will win?" has been eliminated. Unless of course, you're dying to know who's gonna win for "Best Sound Mixing."
If you're planning a get-together to watch the annual marathon, Walletpop had a great post on
how to host a cheap Oscar party. I personally plan on skipping the televised festivities--opting to utilize those four hours in a much more entertaining fashion...
