The latest edition to
Epic Game's Gears of War franchise is nearly upon us. Millions of pre-orders have been placed, including my own. With the early excitement over
Gears of War 3 comes some very cool news about incentives and bonuses surrounding the game's downloadable content set.

I've been avoiding wheat, dairy, and sugar lately--and eating mostly from our CSA box. I love eating this way, but it's presented a few challenges.
For example, last week I ended up with twenty ears of corn. Now, I love corn. My favorite dish is corn chowder, which is traditionally made with milk. I make a modified version with vegetable stock and add some cream at the end, but that's still more dairy than I'm willing to eat right now. So I came up with this vegan version.

Before we get started on another journey through the Savings.com Blog's little corner of Geekdom known as the Guy and No One Else Video Game Show, a bit of a disclaimer is necessary. The title is misleading. This week's edition of the video game blog will cover Mine4Dead and how to get it for free. But I will also talk a bit about Indie games and the fact that many of them are not only fun, but innovative and cheap (
or even free) to purchase.
Let's dive in.

Image by PetersPic924 via FlickrWe finally joined a CSA and I've spent the last two weeks figuring out how to make my own advice on
Meal Planning for CSA Members work for us.
Although we've had some failures already (
fruit rotting before it gets ripe--I've got to find a better way to store it), it's mostly been wonderful--especially the tomatoes! I remember a song from my childhood with the line, "
Only two things that money can't buy and that's true love and homegrown tomatoes!"
It's true, even if the tomatoes were homegrown by someone else.

Wolverine would never use his three-retracting bone claws to cut tomatoes! Cut into a beer can yes, but tomatoes, no way. He would never allow his uber cool claws to get messy with fruit pulp--gross. Wolverine can work up quite an appetite after saving the world from evil mutants. To fuel his body he needs to eat. For that, he must use the proper tools to cut fruits, vegetables and meats just like everybody else.
Which knives do you think Wolverine would use from
Chefs?

Image by missy & the universe via FlickrWhile New York is celebrated for Chinese food on every corner, Los Angeles is abundant in Thai carryout. It is perhaps my favorite lazy dinner, but as cheap as each dish is (
sometimes as little as $5), it adds up and can break the budget.
We've made our own Pad Thai at home, using a jar of pre-made sauce but, although it was delicious, we didn't really find it to be much of a savings. Curry, on the other hand, is incredibly easy to make at home and can be very inexpensive. After years of experimenting, I've settled on a favorite meal of curried chicken/tofu, broccoli, and rice. You can, of course, substitute as you like.

One of the benefits of living in Santa Monica is its proximity to the ocean lends itself to more temperate weather during the hot summer months. Unlike Valley residents, beach dwellers can usually keep cool through the use of fans rather than more expensive and energy draining A/C.
While I'm a proponent of the basic box fan, there are more decorative alternatives for those who prefer form to function. I bring you
Deco Breeze fans which combines both form AND function.

This week, we return to looking at video game offers and determining whether or not there is some true value in them. The twist this time however is that there will be no beating around the bush. Both Fruit Ninja Kinect and the Humble Indie bundle are deals you should grab.

Lady Gaga photo by Domain Barnyard via FlickrThe world is gaga over Lady Gaga. Her outfits so outrageous during an award show that the costume itself deserves an award. You can catch a small glimpse of her face through the crazy mix of carnival masks she wears. And her hair, it's so um…wait, has anyone seen her real hair? She wears wigs, lots of them.
Help her out, which wig do you think would look best on Lady Gaga from Vogue Wigs?

Image by SummerTomato via FlickrI recently cut wheat, sugar, and dairy from my diet--perhaps temporarily, perhaps not--and I'm finding that I'm hungry more often as I adjust. The key to keeping myself on track and reasonably sane has been snacking! Here are some ideas for snacking healthfully, diet-conscious, and budget-wise.

Klingons are a fierce warrior race with horrible skin issues. Have you seen their foreheads? Wrinkles and crinkles. Now, before you get all in a tizzy and state that is what makes them such fierce warriors, face it. They look old. Uh, about Klingon faces...they could use a little sun block lotion, seriously! Klingons are in desperate need for skin care products from the
