Tag team, back again. That's right folks, the video game guru-duo that wowed you with our picks for the
best video games and
worst video games of 2009 is back with enough geeky game energy to power a Death Star.
This year is the year of the sequel it seems. Hey, that's cool as long as milking the cash cow produces some righteous hours of gaming. Anyway, there are way too many great games slated to hit the shelves this year to cover in just one list. It was a bit of struggle narrowing things down, but after hours of testing demos (
Ah the sacrifices we make for the blog!) and almost cult-like dedication to gaming sites across the web, your dynamic Next-Gen duo has managed to come up with our personal top ten games of 2010.
Splinter Cell: Conviction (Guy) - Sam Fisher is back...finally. Originally scheduled to come out about two years ago,
Conviction continues Fisher's stealthy quest to rid the world of techno-terror threats. The twist this time, Sam is on the run, turned on by his former bosses in Third Echelon, and the majority of the action will supposedly take place in open areas. Stealth out in the open? Okay, I'm game. There are several new multi-player modes and some tweaks to the familiar gameplay engine as well. From the screenshots to the latest videos and story details, the latest episode in this Tom Clancy action series seems well worth the wait.
Mass Effect 2 (Guy) - Take a minute to check out the brand new
launch trailer for Bioware's sequel to the 2007 classic. Go ahead...I'll wait. Yeah, mind-blowingly impressive yes? What more could I say, other than "wow" and I really can't wait for the January 26th release date to get here.
Castlevania (Yasar): What's the best way to bring a franchise back to life?
You find two magical masks and combine them to give you the power to resurrect the dead. Oh wait, that's the plot of the new Castlevania.
The makers opted to throw in Captain Picard (
Professor X for those
slightly less nerdy or Patrick Stewart for those who aren't nerdy at
all...) as the narrator of their trailer. There isn't too much info on it
yet but I'm hoping it's going to awesome. Check out the
official
Castlevania website for more details.
Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Yasar): I can't think of a single person who has played
a video game and never played a Mario game. That's because Mario is
the only plumber people feel comfortable having in their homes. Wii
fans have been cursed with only a handful of fun games and Super Mario
Galaxy is one of them. The sequel promises to contain more of the
elements that everyone loved from the first, plus Yoshi. Everyone
loves Yoshi.
UFC Undisputed 2010 (Guy) - 2009 saw THQ release arguably one of the best fighting games ever. This year, expectations are understandably high following the last game's success. From all accounts the development team has expanded on our ability to virtually beat down Frank Mir and Diego Sanchez, whether with a virtual Brock Lesnar, BJ Penn, or a created fighter of our own making. The fight comes to the Xbox 360 and PS3 this Spring. Are you ready? Let's get it on!
Honorable mentions: FF Versus XIII, Last Remnant, and Backbreaker.
So that's part one. Head on over to Yasar's blog post to check out part two of our top ten most wanted games of 2010. As always, you can follow us on Twitter
