On the first day of the contest, Savings.com is giving away...a $500 Home Depot gift card! Mucho gracias to the folks at Home Depot for providing us with this awesome kick-off to the giveaways.
That sure beats a partridge in a pear tree any day. Unless you're fond of partridges. Or really, really like pears...
Anyway, to be in the running to win the gift card, post a comment below. Maybe tell us how you'd spend the $500. Personally if I won (and no worries--Savings.com employees or family members are not eligible...), I'd spend it on soundproofing. Or maybe a big ol' space heater...

I would buy a new storm door and have it installed! Hubby travels a lot, and that would be such a surprise. We're also tired of having to prop it open to get in since the door handle fell off... !!!

I have lots iif irritating things that need repairing. The bathroom faucet handles keep getting loose no matter how many times they are tightened. The toilet tank is spraying water out because the thingy inside seems to have popped a hole in itself. I also need a space heater for my office.I need lots of stuff that I could get at the Home Depot.

I would use the gift card towards home renovation projects. I'm in the process of looking for a home to purchase and know that I will probably spend 5 times that much at Home Depot getting my house up to par. And if by some strange miracle there happens to be anything left over, I would spend it on gardening items.

Wow, what a wonderful gift!! Our condo is getting to the age where things are starting to fail, and we've been hit by the economic crisis. For Christmas this year, we are trying to fix-up my MIL's home. She lives alone and is currently on disability. She has not been able to keep up with the house for quite a few years and the wear and tear is showing. Although, we can't afford to completely redo the house, we are looking to repaint the walls and focus on the kitchen. Her cabinets are currently held together with duct tape and her oven does not work. (She does her cooking on the stove-top). We hope any work we do will lift her spirits and help her try to get herself motivated to get better. This gift card would help us tremendously to get a good start on our supplies for this project.

My family could desperately use the $500 gift card to Home Depot. We had a devastating disaster on Wednesday when our basement flooded with at least 2" of water. We have lost a lot!!!!! We could use the gift card to buy a sump pump and invest in alterative storage solutions.

I would give the gift card to buy supplies to repair my family's house. My parents' work hours are cut, and they fight often, especially over financial issues and our house falling apart with no chance of selling it for profit. I wish I can do more, but many jobs today won't accept a school student. We live near a freeway, so there's always dust on the carpet and furniture. We could buy some better skylights to keep the dust out. The paint's peeling off, on the house's exterior, the wood floors, and the cabinets. There always a lot of ants, it's creepy seeing them everywhere -- in the kitchen, bathroom and shower. The gift card can really help my parents and relieve them of their burden!

My dog Bella has destroyed our blinds trying to peek out at the mailman and the UPS truck. I would use the Home Depot $500 gift cart to purchase some stronger wooden blinds. Also, my husband and I were thinking of painting the garage floor with some of that speckled paint. I'd have a field day shopping! Home Depot rocks!

Funny you mentioned sound-proofing and space heaters. I need BOTH! I just moved into a new apartment and it only has baseboard heaters... brr!! I'm going to freeze this winter!! My hubby is an amatuer wine maker and has been dreaming of turning a small corner of our basement into a wine cellar, $500 would be an amazing start to a really cool project. My house is extremely old, and to the disappointment of some people that were supposed to help 'weatherize' the house, they made it worse.<br> So, I would either get some prehung doors to stop the cold air from coming in in all the gaps of the doors, or safe portable heaters and weatherization plastic to cover the doors and windows.<br> Thanks for the opportunity to win this!

There are so many things I could get with $500 at Home Depot. DH needs some new tools. I don't know which ones so he'd have to come with me and pick them out. My 13 year old kenmore top loader washing machine has finally spun it's last load of laundry and must be retired. We just had major damage to our living room, and had to have asbestos abatement, and they pulled out the brand new carpeting because it was contaminated. A $500 gift card to Home Depot would be extremely well appreciated as we put things back together again. In fact, the carpet which was destroyed was originally purchased at Home Depot, so this would be perfect!

My husband and I are remodeling the bathroom in our house, built in 1929. While we're hanging onto that clawfoot tub, the vanity, mirror and lights need changing....badly. In addition, that bathroom hasn't seen a new coat of paint in the 21 years I've owned the house. It's time for a huge change and a Home Depot card would make the bathroom blow to our wallet a whole lot lighter.

I need a stove. We have one big burner that goes to high, no matter what you set it to, and one small burner that works. The other two don't and the oven doesn't bake things right anymore, its not getting hot enough. I have 4 kids and it's so hard to make dinner, so I'd put it toward a stove for sure.

Okay Seriously, we live in the Fred Flinstone House! It was like this when we moved in about 8 years ago. The previous owners just did the crapiest job of doing anything to the house, whether it be repairs or removations, they just didn't know what they were doing. So my husband and I have been spending the last 8 years trying to slowly fix up the place. I swear it is a labor of love, a full time job and one PITA!! Home Depot is our Home away from Home. All the employees at the store near us know us, and they feel for us, LOL! We just spent over $700 at Home Depot buying some vinyl flooring for my Star Wars collection room. Now, we have to sell the tile that we bought before we found out how much we hate to tile.
