There is no doubt that Oscar night gets a fashion gal like me all in a tizzy. The gowns, oh, the gowns! When else can someone get away with wearing a swan, or partially exposing her breasts, or starting a new trend in the blink of an eye? Okay, so there are also always some major misses. But more than anything else what I like to look for at the Oscars is how they will affect spring fashion. Let's take a look.
Maggie Gyllenhaall scored with her brightly colored Dries Von Noten dress.
Bright colors are definitely in for spring.
The Pantone Fashion Color Report suggests soft shades of violet, yellow, turquoise, and pink will be in. The best tip to remember for when you are working with bold shades is to pair it with something neutral and simple.
"Pairing a bold color with a basic piece, or freshening up your look with a bright accent addresses the need for practicality as well as fun," says Leatrice Eisman of the Pantone Color Institute.
This Neon skirt, just $8.97 from Tripp is a great way to go bold this spring. Just remember to pair it with a nice simple color of flats and a top.
Don't go too matchy, matchy (i.e.; all yellow). Think a lovely spring flower, not a neon light bulb.
As far as another stop for color coupled with simplicity, you can never go wrong with a stop at American Apparel. This Spring it is absolutely okay to buy those neon green skinny jeans.
It was definitely Sandra's night at the Oscars. She also dressed well for a night that she will likely be remembered for for the rest of her life. Her intricately embroidered Marchesca gown looked classic and feminine. The lacy flowered embroidery reminded me that this spring is all about femininity.
If you have no reason to don a Marchesca any time soon, have no fear, H&M is bringing the flower and bold color trend to women everywhere in affordable fashion with their Garden Collection. Dresses start at an affordable $20, and will have you in full bloom.
Plus, go ahead, and practice that Oscar acceptance speech as you get ready for a night on the town. We won't tell.
Many thought Queen Latifah never looked better on Oscar night. I couldn't agree more. Latifah reminded us ladies that bling in the right places will always add that perfect style.
Latifah's Badgley Mischa certainly did place that bling where bling looks best--helping to highlight the shoulders of one beautiful woman.
To find your own blingy number we recommend Etsy for some spring originals. This gold number boasts some lacy bling in all the right places, and it'll run you about $50. We've also got a crush on this blingy, and flowery skirt that combines two spring trends of florals into one.
