It's a new year and time for new gadgets to take hold of our wallets and imaginations. With CES 2010 (The Consumer Electronics Show) currently taking place in Las Vegas, enthusiasm for the best that 2010 will have to offer is incredibly high. Many of the gadgets I will be listing here are all the buzz on the convention floor.

So let's just jump right into what's hot in consumer electronics for 2010.

  •  3-D Televisions - One of the most anticipated items of the new year are flat screen 3-D sets that can bring the beauty and experience of a movie like James Cameron's Avatar seamlessly into the home. With major networks like ESPN planning to offer 3-D channels in the immediate future, and Blu-Ray players and discs coming out 3-D-ready, the death of 2-D viewing might not be far off. It's not just breaking into a new dimension that marks the innovations coming to enhance our viewing pleasure. Major television manufacturers like Samsung and Toshiba have already showcased an impressive lineup of 3-D wireless-enabled flat screen TVs at this year's show. A good example of the coolness to come:  "Toshiba's main offering for CES was the innovative Cell TV, which is built around the same power plant as the PlayStation 3, giving it 143 times more processing power than today's TVs."
  • Verizon's Palm Pre Plus and Pixie Plus - The bottom line here is that Verizon finally gets something that Sprint has, but with cool new improvements. As Unwiredview.com states, "Verizon's Pre and Pixi will also be able to use the new Palm mobile hotspot webOS app which offers the option of creating a personal Wi-Fi cloud capable of sharing the reliability and high-speed Internet connectivity of the Verizon Wireless 3G network with up to five Wi-Fi-enabled devices such as notebooks, netbooks, cameras, gaming devices or portable media/MP3 players."
  • Google Nexus One - Pics of Google's very own droid phone the Nexus One have been popping up all over the internet these past few weeks. Rabid anticipation for the phone of phones continues to grow with every new tidbit of information. Not even controversy over the possibly Blade Runner-inspired name can slow down the Nexus One.

Now I could keep going on and, in fact, I really do want to go on regaling you with tales of transparent laptop screens, Sony's new Make.Believe mantra, and all things Project Natal. But the conference just started today and the news is coming out at a fast and furious pace. So look for a followup blog next week recapping more of the most anticipated tech for 2010.
