It's hard to believe – but some cosmetic companies still test their products on animals. And plenty of companies still use chemicals and fillers in their cosmetics even though organic, cruelty-free alternatives exist.

Personally, when I found out that my makeup was full of chemicals once tested on bunnies, I decided to make the switch to cruelty-free natural cosmetics. Here are some of my favorite brands.
1. Burt's Bees

Burt's Bees carries a line of tinted lip balm, lip shimmers and lip glosses. Every tube is made from organic materials and is animal cruelty-free. The lip products have a good amount of color and a minty flavor. They also include nourishing ingredients that help heal cracked or dry lips.

Burt's Bees lip care line is available at the Burt's Bees website and at Drugstore.com.

2. Afterglow Cosmetics

Afterglow cosmetics sells a full line of vegan-approved, organic, cruelty-free mineral makeup. Afterglow cosmetics has a full line of foundation, concealer, eye shadow and eyeliners. I love the mineral eye shadow, which comes in both matte and shimmer, but I've looked great in everything I've tried from the brand.

Afterglow Cosmetics is available at the AfterGlow website and on Amazon.com

3. Kiss My Face

Kiss My Face sells organic tinted moisturizer. The moisturizer is made from organic clay and gives you a hint of color while soothing dry skin. The company also sells a line of tinted lip shimmers in several different colors. The lip shimmers have a hint of vanilla flavor that I love, and the added A and E vitamins help keep my lips from chapping.

Kiss My Face is available at Drugstore.com, Amazon.com and Walgreens.com

4. Physician's Formula Organic Wear

Not too long ago, it was hard to find organic makeup in a regular drugstore or mega-store. Then Physician's Formula brand changed all that. Their Organic Wear line includes everything from mascara to mineral foundation, and best of all – you can buy the products both online and in-store. I wear the Organic Wear eyeliner and mascara religiously, but I also liked the mineral foundation and tinted moisturizer.

Physician's Formula Organic Wear is available at Target, Wal-Mart, Walgreens as well as online at Drugstore.com

If you have your own favorite cosmetic brand, you can find out if the brand tests on animals by visiting the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals website. PETA maintains a list of companies known to conduct animal testing.
