The disaster and devastation created by Hurricane Sandy is heartbreaking to see. Being so far away from all of the chaos can easily make us all feel really helpless. But there are things that we can do to support the victims of the hurricane that came through this past week.
Here are five ways that we can show our support and help those that are currently in the midst of the mess and ruin: 1. Financial Donation via Text.
- For the Red Cross, text “REDCROSS” to 90999 to make a $10 donation. Standard text messaging rates apply.
- For World Vision, DealPro Karen Rodriquez of Saving the Family Money says you can donate $10 by texting “GIVEUSA” to 777444. Standard text messaging rates apply.
2. Financial Donation Online or via Mail.
There are several worthy organizations that are helping Hurricane Sandy victims right now. You can donate easily online through these links, or all these organizations also accept donations by mail.
If you are currently in any of the affected areas, consider donating your time and assistance to help others in need. The American Red Cross can connect you with local ways to help.
4. Donating Blood.
Find out how you can give blood at the American Red Cross website.
5. Donating Items.
Local shelters in your area will have various needs like food and blankets, so contact yours to see how you can help. Feed The Hungry also has a way for you to schedule a pick-up of items to donate.
