Beauty Resolutions to Start Off the New Year

It’s a brand new year and I hope that it will be everyone’s greatest year yet! A good way to start it off is by practicing good habits—beauty habits, that is. If you want to look your best all year long, follow these tips and continually make them a part of your routine: Don’t Sleep with Your Makeup On

We’ve all known this since we started wearing makeup. The toughest part is taking your makeup off when it’s late at night and all you want to do is dive straight into bed. For those nights when you’re just too exhausted, keep face wipes on your night stand or close to your bed. Almay Makeup Remover Towelettes are cheap and works great even for sensitive skin.

Keep Makeup Brushes Clean

This is one of those things that we never really think about, but I think it’s a very important one. Makeup brushes are breeding grounds for bacteria when skin oils and makeup build up therefore causing breakouts and other skin problems. Wash them monthly or weekly (if possible) with an antibacterial brush cleaner, like gloMinerals Brush Cleaner. Simply spray it then wipe with a tissue. You can also use a gentle shampoo for cleaning them.

Wear SPF Every Day

Protect your skin all year round (even when it’s raining!) and apply sunscreen on your face, neck and hands. Use a sunscreen that protects from both UBA and UVB like Skinceuticals Sheer Defense SPF 50. You can also use it as a primer for your makeup since it goes from a liquid to a powder finish. It may also help to keep sunscreen in your car, purse, or at the office. That way you won’t have any excuses for forgetting to put it on.

Do-It-Yourself

Instead of going out and getting your mani and pedi done, save money by just doing them yourself at home. Instead of buying products like masks, hair treatments, and body scrubs, try making them yourself. There are a ton of DIY beauty recipes that you make at home with natural ingredients and can also be pretty fun. This year, I’m going to try making my own homemade natural toothpaste.

Go Easy on Styling Tools

Constant use of hair straighteners, curling irons, and blow dryers can be very damaging and make your hair brittle. Try sporting your hair natural texture more often. If you really feel the need to, make sure to use a heat protector before using any styling tool on your tresses. I really like Pantene Heat Protection and Shine Spray. It’s cheap and kept my hair soft even under really high heat.

Buy less products. I have tons of lotions and makeup that I don’t even use.

I need to remember to use sunscreen. I tan easy, hardly ever burn so I forget.
