Comedy Central App Streams Full Episodes For Free

Comedy Central App Scratch

It may be April 1, but this is no joke: Comedy Central’s new iOS app lets you watch full-length episodes of “The Daily Show,” “Key & Peele,” “South Park,” and more–all for free.

@#!$ yeah!

Before this, various Comedy Central shows had their own apps, but most of them (like The Colbert Report’s) let you watch only clips. Now you can see the latest episodes of over a dozen shows, in their entirety, the day after they air.

In other words, at long last, you can stream last night’s “Daily Show” on the train ride to work. In your face, boredom! (Just try to keep the laughter down. Some of us have work to do.)

However, before you call your cable company in a fit of cord-cutting finality, consider this: If you want to watch older episodes of, say, Futurama (and, in fact, now that the show has been canceled, older episodes are your only option), you have to prove you’re a cable subscriber by signing into your account.

So if you’re content to watch only recent episodes of “Workaholics” and “Broad City,” go ahead and tell your cable provider where to stick it. But if you want a bigger library of Comedy Central goodness, you’ll need to keep your subscription.

Either way, this is the answer to many a comedy lover’s prayer. Now for the bad news: Currently, the app is iOS-only. Android users will have to wait their turn. (Windows Phone users, well, who knows?)

By the way, if you’re looking for an actual April Fool’s Day joke, this is one of my favorites, courtesy of TigerDirect:

Yep, it’s a laptop with an unfolding origami display. Even better is the free Catapult Shipping option, which promises “90% accuracy” and “faster than drone” delivery.

Why oh why can’t it be real?!
