Could P90X or TRX Turn You Into Captain America, First Avenger?

Steve Rogers was a scrawny, thin sickly man. He joined the military despite that, but was classified as unfit for duty. Steve’s courage and resilience caught the eye of a scientist who recruited him to a secret experimental project. Steve entered a body chamber, and emerged as superhero Captain America. He experienced a rebirth into a chiseled, muscular and uber-athletic body. (If only such a chamber existed for the general population.)

Good news, if you want to achieve an athletic, toned body you can try a fitness-training course at home. You may think that to look buff as Captain America, you must join a gym. Definitely, it is beneficial to lift weights or enroll in cardio class. However, not every city in the country has a gym or workout facility. Some towns are too small. So, then what do you do?

There are two in home fitness programs to consider: P90x or TRX.

P90x

P90x is an intense 90-day fitness-training course, which includes 12 workout DVDs, nutrition plan, fitness guide and a calendar to keep track of your progress. You will need a small space at home, a set of dumbbells or resistance bands, and a pull-up bar. Each session takes about an hour a day to complete.

The 12 DVDs each have a specific fitness workout, which may target both muscle strengthening and toning, or cardio exercises.

  1. Chest & Back–tones and strengthens
  2. Plyometrics–jump training with over 30 explosive airborne moves
  3. Shoulder & Arms–builds muscle mass or tones
  4. Yoga X–strengthens, balance, flexibility, and breath work
  5. Legs and Back–strengthens leg muscles
  6. Kenpo X–cardio to improve balance, endurance, flexibility, and coordination
  7. X Stretch–a full-body stretch workout
  8. Core Synergistics–builds multiple muscle groups
  9. Chest, Shoulders, & Triceps–targets both large and small muscles
  10. Back & Biceps–builds muscle mass or tones
  11. Cardio X–a low impact, fat-burning workout
  12. AB Ripper X–abdominal muscle strengthening

If you have the tenacity to push through a 90-day program, then these are the fitness training videos for you. In the end, you may feel like a superhero having gone through such a rigorous program! P90X is available at Amazon priced under $140.

TRX

TRX was developed by a Navy Seal is a fitness program based on leveraged bodyweight exercise. You can perform hundreds of exercises that build strength, flexibility, and balance.

The package contains a training device with pair of sturdy nylon straps; modular anchoring interface that attaches to any elevated fixture such as door or tree branch, three DVDs plus a mesh bag to store everything.

TRX is currently used by professional athletes, military personnel, and fitness pros around the world. You work at your own pace and, unlike the P90x, you can workout at home, outdoors or even if you are on vacation. Available at Amazon priced under $190.

Unfortunately, we cannot step into a “Project Rebirth” chamber to achieve a toned muscular body in a snap like Captain America. However, you do not need a gym membership to get into shape. Which fitness-training program appeals to you?

    @champ – my son has been wanting this program for a time now, just expensive when you consider it’s a bunch of dvds.

    @tsggc – I’m definitely interested in TRX. They have an affiliated program and next year I hope to have a fitness website with this product.
