Going "Green" can be overwhelming, and doing it to save money can make you want to go off the deep end.  Sometimes getting back to the basics is the best thing to do.  Even though installing solar panels to your house is a great idea, there are small steps to take that can make a big difference.  Here are some of the smaller things you can do to go green and save money.

  • Start using reusable cloth grocery bags.  You can pick up bags at thrift stores, purchase the reusable shopping bags at your store, or use whatever bags you have on hand.  After the initial purchase of your shopping bags, you won't be out any additional money.  Plus, many stores rebate you a few cents for each reusable bag you use!

  • Re-wear clothing instead of wearing it once and washing it.  Of course, some clothing you have to wash after wearing once, but for pants and some shirts, you normally can wear them at least two times before needing to wash. You'll save water, energy, and time!

  • Line dry your clothing.  It will save you money on your electricity bill, and it is also gentler on your clothes.  You know the lint that's in your dryer? That has to come from somewhere, and it's coming from your clothes!

  • If you do use your dryer, use wool dryer balls to reduce your drying time.  Learn how to make wool dryer balls and save your money!

  • Use cloth towels in the kitchen and for cleaning instead of paper towels.  Cloth diapers can be reused to clean windows and mirrors.

  • Walk more and drive less.  You'll save money and get in better shape!

  • Use hand dryers in the restrooms instead of paper towels.  Have you seen the new Dyson Blade? It's pretty amazing!

These are some basic steps to help you go green and save money.  Sometimes getting back to the basics is the best thing!
