Family Fun in Atlanta, Ga: Keep it Fun and Cheap!
Whether you're an Atlanta local, or planning on visiting in the near future, there are lots of fun and cheap things to do around town. Family fun in Atlanta, Ga doesn't have to mean expensive, or boring. It can mean lots of fun that you get to have while keeping more of your hard-earned dollars in your pocket.
As an Atlanta local myself, I'm always looking for cheap things to do with the family. I could spend my entire Christmas budget trying to do fun things with the kids locally if I'm not careful, so here are a few things I've learned to do locally that are fun and cheap to do (some are free)!
Kennesaw Mountain in Kennesaw, Ga.
Love nature, hiking or just want a fun place to have a picnic with the family? Kennesaw Mountain
is free to visit, and they even have a free Civil War Museum that you can check out with the kids. It's educational and fun! Spend a day at the mountain just having a good time, but be sure to bring plenty of water! For a short fee you can ride the bus to the top of the mountain, or drive your car to the top and walk a short distance to the highest point. From the top you can see Atlanta, Stone Mountain and various other points that are labeled for you on a big map available at the top. Piedmont Park
This park is wonderful to visit with the kids, and your furry friends will especially love all the space where they can run around and chase a ball or frisbee. If you do plan to visit this gorgeous park in the heart of the city, plan to spend a little bit of money for parking unless you can find a good parking spot on a side street. .The Biggest Flea Market in Georgia
If you love hunting for treasures and plan to be around North Georgia, plan a visit to the Big D Flea Market in Dalton, Georgia
. It's about an hour and a half drive from the heart of Atlanta, but well worth the visit. It's the biggest flea market in Georgia, and you're sure to find a treasure and have fun with the family. You'll find anything from antiques, to produce, to farm animals at this awesome flea market. Just browsing all the goodies is an adventure in and of itself. Stone Mountain, Georgia
You've heard the hype about that big rock in the heart of Georgia. Most people don't realize that they can actually visit the park and climb the mountain for free (parking is $10). There are various playgrounds around the park, and plenty of places to have a picnic with the family. The park also contains attractions that are not free to use, but it is easy to spend and enjoy the day here for just the cost of parking. If you do want to enjoy some of the fun attractions at the park, through August 24, 2012 you can get a free Kid's Pass with the purchase of an Adult Adventure Pass
