The eccentric designs. The stoic models stalking down the runway. The eager celebs in the front row. Anna Wintour. Last week, New York got swept up in its most fabulous tradition: Fashion Week. Spring/Summer 2010 saw some new trends, as well as more of the same. Like a villain in a horror movie, the prevalence of neon colors suggest the 1980s throwback trend simply won't die. Likewise, feminine, cinched waists suggest the MadMen style meme is going to last well into 2010. Over all, it was an impressive week of wearable and flattering designs.

Even Fashion Week wasn't immune to the effects of the recession--many of the styles on the runway were grey, black or neutral. Designers like Marc Jacobs showcased their lower cost lines in New York last week. Throughout 2009, fashion shows, once a paragon of decadence and frivolity (for better or worse) have scaled back, having fewer lavish parties and more pret-a-porter looks.

Although it wasn't as ostentatious as in years past, New York Fashion Week had no shortage of eye popping, drool-worthy styles. I scoured the pictures from fashion week AND hunted for the best deals, so you can look 2010 in 2009 on a dime.

Toga Style/Asymmetry

It seemed that almost every catwalk was graced with models sporting looks that were positively Roman. Togas and draping abounded. Suddenly symmetry seems so 2000.

Try Fluxus Athena dress from Revolve for less than $100 and use one of our Revolve coupons to save some money on your order.
Michael Kors Metallics

Metallics

Many designers showcased sleek, metallic textiles this year. Try a pair of metallic flats to make this bold look wearable. If you were drooling over the metallic frocks at Michael Kors, score your own (imitation) at Bluefly for a fraction of the cost and save $40 with this Bluefly coupon code.

Oscar De La Renta

Big Shoulder

The big shoulder was hot on the runway last week. It's a great chance to break out old blazers if you've got 'em, because that look just cycled back into style. If shoulder pads aren't your thing, try a dress that accentuates your shoulders. Like this one from 500 Days dress by Modcloth. That way you can be on-trend in a wearable, feminine way.
Bold Eyeliner
Makeup Shakedown

Many shows featured striking, bold eyeliner as a beauty trend for 2010. With a neutral face and the right shade, this can be a wearable look to refresh your style come spring. Try the Smashbox Jet Set liner for a pop of color to liven up your look. Use this Ulta coupon to get free shipping and a free gift.

Perhaps to counterbalance the bold eyes, many makeup artists chose a demure, nude lip, a perfect, accessible trend you can start right away. I like NARS lipstick in Honolulu Honey to achieve this look at home. Buy it at Sephora and score a bonus gift from Philosophy when you spend $25 or more with this Sephora promo code.

Breakout Showstopper: Anna Sui

Many felt Anna Sui's jubilant, circus-inspired runway show was the most exciting of Fashion Week. Like the whimsy, but not the pricetag? Shop Anna's Target line, with most of the styles at $55 or less.
