Five Ways to Save More at Your Walmart Store

Walmart is pretty much synonymous with "discount prices" and is the go-to source for deals on electronics, video games, appliances and even groceries for millions of Americans.  Other than using Walmart coupons, are there other ways to save even more at the world's biggest retailer?

You betcha!

Walmart's monolithic retail presence (it's number one on the Fortune 500) has propelled it from super store to cultural icon status--what with the People of Walmart website or blogger Bayan Rabbani's 24 hour experiment.  But you don't need to live in a Walmart 24/7 to take advantage of the super deals.

Here are five ways to maximize your savings at the retail giant:
  1. Shipping Savings - Living in Los Angeles, I'm in the minority of Americans who DON'T live within 15 miles of a Walmart.  Not a problem, I can still save money by shopping Walmart.com.  Right now the website is offering free shipping on all bikes, TVs and some select "Dads and Grads" gift ideas.  Plus 97 cent shipping on select items in Health and Beauty, Apparel, Electronics, CDs, DVDs, video games and more.  You can even sign up for an RSS feed to alert you with updates on products that are eligible for the 97 cent shipping offer.  If you do live near a Walmart, they also offer free site to store shipping on thousands of items.
  2. Free Samples - What better savings is there than FREE?  It's my favorite four letter word (followed closely by "sale").  Walmart.com has a section devoted to freebies:  free samples, free tools, free music and more.
  3. $4 medications - The Walmart pharmacy currently has hundreds of prescription medications and dozens of OTC drugs available for only $4 for a 30-day supply or $10 for a 90-day supply.  My generic co-pay is $15 so it's quite a significant savings.
  4. Walmart classifieds - Look out Craigslist and eBay!  In 2008, Walmart introduced free online classified ads where people can post and find jobs, housing, vehicles, items for sale and tickets.
  5. Work where you shop - If you're always at Walmart anyway, might as well get paid for it!  Walmart associates save an additional 10% off already low regularly priced items.
