Free Wi-Fi with your latte has been a great marketing tool to encourage customers to hang out with their laptops at the local coffee shop--presumably downing multiple cups of coffee, espressos, chai lattes and like as they surf the 'net.
Unfortunately, many shops have seen an influx in customers camped out at their tables without the corresponding increase in food and beverage sales. For this reason, according to a recent story in the L.A. Times, many
coffee shops are eliminating Wi-Fi in an effort to increase their profits.
You'll still be able to access the Internet for free with
Starbucks Wi-Fi with no registration, account or time limits. According to Mashable:
"In addition to the new free Wi-Fi program, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz told Wired's Chris Anderson that the company is also planning on rolling out a new Starbucks Digital Network in partnership with Yahoo later this fall. This network, which will only be accessible in U.S. company-operated stores, will offers customers free and unrestricted access to paid sites and services like WSJ.com and other content providers on their phones, tablets or laptops."
But that's not the only freebie
Starbucks is offering: You can get
free business cards courtesy of their website. You just type your first name, last name, contact phone number and email address into the designated fields, choose one of four styles and your "title" (
including: CEO of Everything, BossMan, BossLady, Center of the Universe, Puppet Master and a few other tongue-in-cheek options...), submit and you're given the option of printing your design or having them mailed to you.
Pretty nifty, huh?
