The latest edition to Epic Game's Gears of War franchise is nearly upon us. Millions of pre-orders have been placed, including my own. With the early excitement over Gears of War 3 comes some very cool news about incentives and bonuses surrounding the game's downloadable content set.
We won't get into the fact that really, all of the extra levels, game modes, etc. should already be included on the $60.00 disc, (A Gears of War 3 Limited Edition, which will be available for $80 as well as an Epic Edition priced at $150). That's a debate for another day--or the comments section below. No, for now, let's focus on the positive aspects of the announcement.
The Gears of War 3 Season Pass will allow gamers to get the first four DLC sets when they release for just $30. That translates to 2,400 Microsoft points. Once you activate the pass, you will receive access to the Liquid Metal Weapon Set (which sounds like something out of Metal Gear Solid).
The first DLC package should arrive in November. On top of the $60 or so already spent on the game, $30 seems like a lot for an extra feature experience. If you look at it in terms of cost per DLC package, however, there is a savings incentive (roughly 33% by some estimates) for purchasing them early and all together via the Pass. This is, of course, if you are diehard enough to really want all of the game extras.
I'm on the fence myself. I'll probably wait and see how much I enjoy the game in hand, whether or not there are any bugs or needed patch fixes, before I decide whether or not to drop the extra cash for add-ons.
As always be sure to follow me on Twitter @SavingsGCapes for the latest updates on all things Gears of War 3. And to Kristen, Marc, Tom, and Michael: I'll see you all online soon so we can grab some cogs, clean the guts out of our chainsaws and kill some worms together.
While we wait for September 20th to arrive, sit back and enjoy the awesome World Premier trailer:
