One thing I adored about the Sex and the City 2 movie was their non-apologetic romp through decadence! How refreshing that the pesky R Word (recession) was nowhere to be found. I must admit I totally enjoyed traveling with the characters from their sparkling New York homes to a budget-free, high-society wedding with none other than Liza Minnelli as the hired help, and then to be chauffeured to their desert oasis in not one, but four flawless Maybach sedans?

Talk about a fiction fantasy ride!

Sometimes in our quest to follow a budget, words like "decadence" and "splurge" can take quite a nasty beating. I say, when it comes to creating your sanctuary--your oasis in the sand--a little luxury is an absolute must!

So how can you create the look and feel of decadence without the look and feel of a shiny Platinum American Express card at the ready? Easy: use ALL your five senses. Don't just fix your eyes on that budget, but taste, hear, touch and smell the luxury!

The feel of silk and chenille just screams luxury when you drape it over mirrors, lamps, beds and armchairs. Look at you, throwing caution to the wind! Cost: $20 - $79 at Pottery Barn, Overstock.com.

The subtle smell of freshly cut roses wafting from a crystal cut vase gives the impression you have all day to wander through gardens picking out that perfect bouquet. How cavalier, how coy of you to visit the florist section at Trader Joe's and splurge on that gorgeous arrangement! Cost: Under $12.

Now, settle in for the night with a great bottle of wine and some dark chocolate to soothe your palette (also a Trader Joe's or World Market special) and let decadence permeate your five senses!

When it comes to your home oasis, never be afraid to splurge! A little luxury goes a long way to regenerate the spirit, clear the mind and remind you why you're working!

Of course, this is all inside the house. Once outside, you're on your own with the Maybach sedan. Cost: a mere $417,000.
