Something about fall makes me want to shop. Maybe it's a lingering effect of years of Back-to-School shopping, maybe it's the crisp autumn air and the unfortunate fact that a moth ate my three favorite sweaters sometime between now and the last cold snap, or maybe it's the crazy fall deals that abound.

You don't need a new wardrobe (or pay raise) to look stylish this fall--just score these five key pieces to update your look with three easy tips to keep it on the cheap.

Bright Coat - Bring that bold color that you saw on the runway to your day-to-day with a cool coat. That way, you wear the trend, it doesn't wear you. Try this purple stunner from Mod Cloth and use one of our Modcloth discount codes to save even more.

Riding Boots - A flat, riding boot in black or camel pulls countless outfits together. With a flat heel, they're sexy while still being comfortable. Plus, they look great over leggings. And you're in luck--they're discounted right now at Piperlime! While most styles hover around $100, some are less than $50.

Bold Necklace - Chunky, long, metallic, or fabric--the bold necklace is what will give your style an instant lift. As for me, I'm picking up this cute swaggy chain necklace on sale at Martin + Osa. And I might also indulge in this adorable telescope necklace at Urban Outfitters, since both are priced at less than $20. Or to make a real statement, I might invest in a unique piece by "Twisted Silver." You can score one of her gorgeous designs for less with this BeautyChoice.com coupon for $5 off a $50 Twisted Silver purchase and follow her on Twitter (like me!) @TwistedRocks.

Modcloth dress
Blazer - It's all about shoulders. The female warrior is back, says fashion mags, so rock a confident look. This leather blazer from Express is calling my name--and for less than $100 plus an extra 15% off with one of our Express online coupons, I just might answer. For a preppier look, try one of the cute styles at Esprit and get 20% off with one of our Esprit coupons.

Lady Like Day Dress - Some fashionistas call it "The Michelle Obama Effect," some claim it's a response to the recession--but whatever it is, prim, lady-like, retro dresses are back. Try the selection at Mod Cloth for vintage-inspired styles, most under $60. Pick something that can go from day to night with the right accessories for a bonus.

Leggings - This is the trend that just won't quit. It keeps your silhouette lean and mean and looks great under a bright coat or a day dress. Grab an inexpensive pair at Target or Old Navy and use a code to save. Here's one for 15% off at Old Navy that expires tomorrow--so get on that!

Ready to start shopping? If my suggestions weren't your flavor, here are the three best ways to score your own solid, anchor fall pieces for a song.

  • Sample Sales - Try members only sites like Gilt Fuse and Billion Dollar Babes to score great, label pieces for up to 80% off.

  • Etsy - Scour Etsy's network of crafty folks ready to give you an amazing deal on handmade and vintage items. Check out this blog for colorful jackets under $50 from Etsy.

  • Stack Discounts and Online Coupons - My method of choice (Of course! I'm a Savings.com Deal Pro!) Check out our site for the latest, greatest coupons to save you big money, then stack them on existing deals for crazy savings. Many merchants are having their friends and family sales at the moment. Try 25% off at Saks Fifth Avenue on for size.

Now I know you're ready for fall, and hopefully with a little more cash to spare! Share your favorite fall finds in our comments and follow me on Twitter @SavingsMBones for beauty deals galore.
