Money Saving Tips
Whether you are a
funnel cake fanatic or there to watch the derby car crash-up, there is a little bit of everything at the local fair. With an estimated 20,000
state fairs nationwide, the industry has brought billions in revenue over the years.
Fair foodies can rejoice with chocolate covered bacon and keep their cravings satiated this year. A drop in attendance caused many
food vendors to reduce prices with hopes to stimulate appetites. Plus, throw in discounted days to help cut overall expense and now you got our attention.
But wait, are there more ways to save?
The easy answer is to steer clear of the
mid-way games. While that is almost impossible (
especially with kids present), try this in case you get
suckered lured in:
- Brush up on mid-way game tips
- Set a budget and time limit (know when to fold)
- Observe before playing (see if anyone actually wins)
- Ask the attendant to show you how to play
- Keep a few dollar store toys in your trunk (kids will never know the difference)
They aren't any healthier, but it costs less to make carnival food favorites at home. Here are a few classics and the recipes:
Don't forget buy these supplies in advance and bring with you to save more as well:
- Antacid
- Sunscreen
- Water
- Cash (avoid ATM fees)
- Comfortable shoes
Not all spending at the fair is overpriced. For example, the foot massage chair at the end of the night? Worth every quarter.
