In the spring, allergies seem to run rampant.  All of the pollen that's being released into the air seems to trigger allergies for many people.  Fortunately before you turn to the drugstore for help, you can explore more natural options that can save you money and help your health.

Here are some of the remedies I try for allergies.

1. Neti pot.  A neti pot looks like a small genie's lamp.  You fill it with water and either a salt solution or some baking soda and use it to irrigate your nasal passages.  The idea is that it will flush out anything that may be causing irritation.  The neti pot is also good for colds for the same reason: it helps manually flush any blockages in the nose.

2. Herbs.  One of the best herbs to use for allergies is quercetin.  It is a natural anti histamine and anti oxidant.  Quercetin occurs naturally in the skin of red onions in apples.  In order to take a dosage high enough to affect your allergies, you'd have to eat a lot of apples--so it's best to buy the herb to take.

3. Honey.  Local honey is said to be good for allergies because the bees use the local pollen to make the honey.  In turn, you consume a tiny part of the pollen when you consume the honey, which triggers your body to fight against the intruders.

4. Acupuncture.  Acupuncture has been around for many, many years and is a great solution for allergies, among other ailments.  A trained acupuncturist can find certain points that can help you combat allergies.

Allergies can be annoying, but don't let them get you down! There are many tried and true natural remedies that can help eliminate your pain.
