My car doesn't have satellite radio or a CD player. It doesn't have cruise control or power locks and windows either. It used to have a sun roof that you could open, but the motor died in that at least 10 years back. And the odometer…it doesn't work either. It froze at the 90,000 mark while on vacation six years ago.

But most significant on the list of things that my car doesn't have is a car payment, and it's been that way for eight years. It took me five years of sending in $285.27 a month to earn those eight years without car payments, so I can tell you that I have no interest in mucking that up by replacing my car before I have to.

Still, I know the day that I will have to replace my car is coming, and it's time to plan for it. Because I have no interest in taking out another car loan (one was enough for me, thanks), I will be paying cash for whatever I buy next. And that's why my 2011 Savings Pledge is to save $100 a week towards the purchase of a new car.
