Savings Secrets: 3 easy ways to save on your Thanksgiving meal
With Thanksgiving less than three weeks away, it’s time to be planning ahead and thinking of ways to save money – especially if you’re the one hosting the fun! So what better way to get ready than to talk about savin’ some moolah?
Every year it sneaks up on me. Halloween ends, and then Thanksgiving preparation begins right away! Then after that it’s time to plan for Christmas. Half the time I feel like my head isn’t even on straight. Yes, the chaos is great, but I do a few simple things to make my life easier during the holidays. Let’s discuss. 1. My list. I make it, check my stockpile and shop for what I don’t have on hand.

- Green Beans
- Cream of Mushroom Soup
- Onions for the Green Bean Casserole
- You get the idea….
Alternately, I also make a list of the things I don’t want to make so that I can assign those items to family and friends that are coming over. This way I avoid the, “what can we bring” dilemma…everyone knows ahead of time!
2. Shopping with the sales. All the stores want you to come to them in the next couple of weeks, so look at those sales fliers before heading out. Shopping just sale items can easily save you 30-50% off your Thanksgiving meal.
3. Doubling up! If you’re able to get a great price on a turkey, then go ahead and plan to get two so that you’ll have one for Christmas. Stocking up when items are heavily discounted is a great way to save in the long-term and keep more of your hard-earned money in your pocket. Here a a couple of good prices on items I like to stock-up on:
- Turkey: .59-.69/lb
- Fresh Cranberries: .99/bag
- Sweet Potatoes: .75-.99/lb
- Green Beans: .50-.99/can
