Songs to Save By

The popularity of Guitar Hero at last week's Savings.com Party reminded me of what a musical group we have here. In addition to professional musician Erik DiNardo, we have quite a few guitarists, keyboard players, etc. Not to mention serious aficionados like Sara and Derek.

In honor of the musicality of Savings.com, I decided (with a little help from some friends...) to compose a lineup of songs to save by--aka the "Savings.com Playlist":

1. Welcome to the Working Week, Elvis Costello - This ode to Monday entreats, "Oh I know it don't thrill you, I hope it don't kill you." Yeah, we know the feeling...

2. Opportunities (Let's Make Lots of Money), Pet Shop Boys - We've got the coupons, you've got the brains, let's save lots of money...What? That's not the way it goes? Well, that's the way it SHOULD go...

3. Save Me from What I Want, St. Vincent - This is one of Sara's suggestion and it's quite appropriate, don't ya think? Except for at Savings, we aim to save you ON what you want.

4. She Sells Sanctuary, The Cult - We don't have a coupon for it, but if you find some on sale you should definitely stock up!

5. Shop Around, The Miracles - Compare prices, search for coupons, find the best deal. Mama may have been talking about life partners, but the advice works for new laptops, hiking boots or housewares.

6. Money for That, Shiny Toy Guns - Another Sara recommendation. And if you don't have money for that, we just might have a deal for it.

7. Someone to Save You, OneRepublic - Yup, that's us! Someone to save you money on stuff, anyway...

8. Can't Buy Me Love, The Beatles - Money can't buy love--or happiness for that matter. But it can help you buy one Snuggie and get one free--and isn't that close enough?

9. Low Budget, The Kinks - Livin' la vida "low"-ca? If you're "a cut price person in a low budget land," jam on with Ray Davies and company to this tune.

10. Working for a Living, Huey Lewis and the News - Maybe it isn't hip to be square, but in my mind if Huey Lewis is good enough for Patrick Bateman, he's good enough for me!

11. Money for Nothing, Dire Straits - This came courtesy of Ray who apparently is a fan of getting "money for nothing and chicks for free..."
