This past week, a big group of us from Savings.com headed to New York City on a couple of different missions. One team attended the LinkShare Symposium East, which Tom talked about in his post a couple weeks ago. I was part of a second team that was in the city to meet with some great people who are interested in getting the word out about our company. Loren and I met with people from all sorts of publications, and they all seemed stoked to hear about Savings.com, the great things we're doing and the exciting things we're working on.
While we were in NY for work, we were able to sneak in some fun as well. We ate at some really killer restaurants like Balthazar, Five Napkin Burger, and a fun diner across Union Square from our hotel called The Coffee Shop. The word on the street is all the waitresses there are aspiring actresses hoping to get discovered. I've heard that it has worked for people in the past, and judging by the fact that there was a woman flipping through headshots over her morning coffee, they're probably in the right place to be seen.
In addition to the great food we had, we got to do some other fun stuff like vodka tasting at Pravda, which is a bar modeled after a Soviet bunker. Unless you know Russian, you've got a fifty percent chance of wandering into the wrong bathroom, but their vodka is tasty and their French fries are ridiculously good. Before we left town, we were able to sneak in a Broadway show. We went to see Avenue Q, and it was hilarious. Puppets acting lewdly? Yes, please! I heard it described as Sesame Street for grown-ups, and that's a pretty accurate description. This sentiment was echoed in a post on TheBigMoney.com that talks about the success of the show. If you have a chance to check Avenue Q out, do.
Overall, it was a fantastic trip. We made some great business connections, and we got to experience a little bit of what life is like on the other coast.
