More Scary Video Games

A while ago I posted about how you could celebrate Halloween year-round thanks to some scary video games. As the holiday quickly approaches, I thought of a couple more to get into a more macabre state of mind.

Here are three games that will be sure to give you nightmares when you turn the lights off and play alone late into the night.

  • F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin: This game is a horror first-person shooter. You play a supernatural being fighting off zombie like creatures. What makes this game scary is the creatures pop up out of nowhere. Sometimes they will be on the ceiling, other times jumping around corners. Often times your only source of light is a flashlight and it can get pretty scary. This is probably the best horror first-person shooter out there.

  • Bioshock: This is probably my favorite game of all time. The game pits you in the middle of an underwater city called Rapture. It was started by a mad scientist who was attempting to create a utopia which has gone horribly wrong. The citizens of Rapture are basically medical experiments and their main goal is destroying you. The citizens are pretty creepy, but what makes this game scary is the sound. Often times you hear screaming off in the background and it definitely keeps you on edge. It also features little girls who you are forced to either save or harvest for a substance called Adam. The little girls have pretty scary voices and their eyes make them look like they're possessed. The game is very well done and will leave you shaking in your boots if played alone at night.

  • Condemned: This is actually one of the scariest games I have ever played. You fight off supernatural creatures which I have termed "junkies" because they look like zombie heroine addicts. You beat them off with lead pipes, two by fours, and whatever else you can find around you. Similar to F.E.A.R. 2, the junkies jump out of dark corners and will surprise you nine out of ten times. Most of the areas you explore are pitch black and the only source of light you have is a flashlight. The lighting, or lack thereof, is what gives this game character. There could be a junkie right in front of you and you could miss it because the area around you is pitch black. This is one of the most underrated games I've played and definitely one of the scariest.

Playing any of these games will definitely get you ready for Halloween and provide you with hours of entertainment. While a scary movie can be fun, feeling like you're part of the scary environment can give you a whole new experience. So take my advice and pick up one of these games if you haven't. You can even use this Gamestop coupon and save 16% on the used versions of them. And for more ways to get your All Hallows Eve freak on, check out our Halloween deals as well.
