Of course, we all know that the best-tasting brownies are those you make from scratch, but the below mixes should do when you just can't find time to prepare them yourself.
Cakey Mixes
The hands-down winner is Cherrybrook Kitchen Fudge Brownie Mix, with their perfectly moist and cake-like texture. As a bonus for those to whom this matters, this mix contains no trans fats, dairy, eggs, or nuts. Unfortunately, all of this goodness comes at a price -- $5 per box.
A bridge between cakey and fudgy, Ghirardelli's Chocolate Syrup Brownie Mix makes brownies that are moist, spongy, crumbly, and rich. Even better, it's priced pretty reasonably -- $2.50 per box.
Fudgy Mixes
Dark, dense, and decadent, the surprisingly good Duncan Hines Dark Chocolate Fudge Brownie Mix is the way to go for fudgy mix lovers, and offers the biggest box yet (19.8oz) for the cheapest price so far ($1.80).
Another surprisingly good choice here is Archer Farms Chocolate Overload. For a $2.99 box, you get brownies that taste natural with a flaky top (like mom used to make!) and sticky centers.
Gluten-Free Mixes
The cheapest mix is actually one of the best – Betty Crocker Gluten-Free Brownie Mix (for 99 cents!) makes brownies that are "chocolate cakes meets molten lava cake," with a moist, gooey center and a flaky top.
Another good (but shockingly expensive) gluten-free mix comes from The Really Great Food Company. These yummy brownies are both chewy and fluffy, but they'd better be for $7.29 per box.
What's your favorite kind of brownies to make?
Yum. I usually buy Ghirardelli's Double Chocolate Mix. It's quite rich and has always been a hit when I bring it into the office or to a party. I haven't tried the Chocolate Syrup Brownie Mix, but I'll have to try it next time I bake.
