Hello fellow video game nerds. We've got some bad news for you this week. No, it's not that Guy is quitting to pursue his dream of becoming a ballet dancer. It's that Sony plans on removing the option to install another OS on the PS3 when you download their new firmware that comes out today.
For those of you who are unaware that the PS3 can run dual operating systems, you probably have nothing to worry about--now you know that it used to be able to do that. Sony claims that they are getting rid of this because the option is a loophole for hackers. I have no idea what that means so don't ask.
(Guy says it sounds like corporate B.S. to smokescreen their attempts to limit the free openness of the PS3 and to look for the other OS option to return later as a pay service later and sadly folks, he's probably right on this one... )
There is a way of keeping your second OS if you are one of the many users who use this option. You can choose not to download the new update. The only problem with that is you won't be able to access the PlayStation Network
(i.e. beat Guy at any online game), have access to many Blu-ray features (
i.e. Guy can't watch the extras for Chairman of the Board), or use any of the new features that come with the firmware update. In other words, if you want to use your PS3 for anything entertainment related, you can't.
One option you have if you own a PS3 and don't use it for games or for the second operating system, is using it as grill. I'm just kidding, I just wanted to link to this
PS3 grill. If you want more info on the update, you can check out the
PlayStation blog. You can also leave hate comments for Sony to read there. If you want more video game and tech news you can check me and Guy out on Twitter

Just don't leave us hate comments...
