Eyebrow threading, highlights, lowlights, seaweed wraps, oxygen facials, bang trims...to add up everything you can spend to look head-to-toe manicured can be a daunting prospect for a high maintenance lady. But just because you are pampered and primped, that doesn't mean you need to be fleeced as well.
Spa Week is coming up (
April 12-18), so I felt inspired to show you other great ways to save on beauty treatments. With good timing and a little recon, you can keep your overhead low while your "Pa-dow!" factor remains high.
Consumer Review SitesThe popular consumer review website,
Yelp, posts deals for local salons, spas, yoga studios, and more. While some of them are pretty mild (
10% off? Yawn...), some savings reach up to 75% off. You can even get free haircuts, highlights, and massages if you luck out. I looked in my city and found the Brazilian Blowout, regularly priced upwards of $300, for just $125. That's a huge savings that you can't afford to miss.
Citysearch also posts great deals--check out the offerings for your city.
Group OffersSpas and salons in your area offer discounts through sites like Groupon and
Living Social if enough people buy in. Recently I found a great deal on a haircut for my husband through
Groupon. With more and more sites entering the local deal space (
Ahem...Savings.com will be launching social deals pretty soon!) you can find more and more ways to save.
Beauty SchoolNot long ago I posted about scoring freebies and major discounts on treatments by
hitting beauty school. While haircuts might be a gamble, a facial (
without extractions) or a seaweed wrap from a pro-to-be could be a great option.
Spa WeekSpa Week lets you try amazing spa treatments for just $50 a pop. The next one is comping up April 12th-18th and available treatments are posted now.
SpaFinderCheck out SpaFinder for big savings on treatments on vacation or in your backyard. If you're not familiar, SpaFinder is a website listing hundreds of spas, salons, and sanctuaries, designed to help you get the most out of your spa-going experience. Plus, we've got money-saving

BarterIn my year of working at a salon, the stylists often traded haircuts for personal pilates sessions, manicures, and more, but maybe you can think outside the box. Let your facialist, waxer or stylist know your skills: Do you design websites? Are you an accountant? Maybe the two of you can work out a mutually beneficial arrangement. Even if your skills are less cut and dry, perhaps you can pet sit, help paint, hem pants--the possibilities are endless. If you have a good relationship with your grooming professional, this might be a great way to save without straying somewhere new.
I see a bargain day of beauty in your future, my high maintenance friend. And I salute you. Go forth and spa it up!
