I'm convinced that you can have the best furniture and the best decorator and still have a house that looks junky. I'm also convinced that you can have second-hand furniture and home decor items that were all purchased at Goodwill and have a fabulous looking house.
One of the best ways to make your home warm and inviting is to make sure it is clean and organized.
When our stuff is everywhere, our home looks less beautiful and it feels much less peaceful. This year, I've included "get more organized" in my list of resolutions. I've been looking for various organizational supplies and I thought I'd share some of my favorite places to find great home organization supplies like boxes, bins and shelving units.
- Freecycle
Freecycle began as a grassroots movement to keep good items out of landfills. Today they have over 5000 groups and over 8,000,000 members who are all giving stuff (and getting stuff) for free in their own communities. Once you join your local group, you'll see a variety of thing that members are giving away...including plenty of great home organization supplies. Giving things away on Freecycle is a great way to declutter and finding useful home organizational supplies is a great way to help organize what you have. It's a win/win!
- Craigslist
People regularly sell things for a fraction of what they're worth on Craigslist. This is a great resource for larger home decor items like shelving units, storage ottomans, china cabinets, etc.
- The Dollar Store
The Dollar Store has an amazing assortment of bins, tins, boxes, and other items that will help you corral smaller items. You can also use dollar store purchases to create decorative organization items like the Tiered Dessert Stand pictured above that would be perfect in a bathroom or bedroom for organizing makeup and perfume.
- Marshalls, TJ Maxx or Home Goods
These three stores are the catch all end all for random, gorgeous home decor and home organization items. My favorite bins have all come from one of these three stores. While you won't find the same thing in every store, you will find a variety of items that can be mixed and matched for a gorgeous final look.
- Amazon
If shopping online is your thing, you'll definitely want to check out Amazon. They have everything...bins, boxes, shelving units and more.
Other great places to find home organization items include
The Container Store,
IKEA and
Target.
What are your favorite places to find home organization supplies?
I've tried freecycle, didn't work for me. Love Craigs, Amazon and we now have a new dollar store opening this month. I like eBay too.
