Valentine's Day is right around the corner, and for some of us ladies that means getting the lingerie out, or getting ready to receive. For you guys, that means the intimidating and thrilling process of crossing through the doors of a lingerie store. Unless you're a burlesque performer, you might not be regularly sporting fancy panties and lace. And if you're a guy, you may have only recently entered lingerie relationship territory.

Have no fear, we're breaking down the joys of voluptuous velvet and soft silk at prices that won't break the bank. So treat yourself, or get treated this Valentine's Day!

Thongs: If you're the one doing the gifting, thongs are a safe way to go, as many women do actually wear them. Lace in the back is not always the best option here as it can be uncomfortable. Think about a nice ribbon or bow instead, and you can't miss with the softness of satin.

Bustiers: These can be super tricky unless you know a woman's bra size. (She might not even know her own bra size). While seen in classic pinup photos, a bustier can be a gift the recipient and giver can both enjoy. That said, the gift of a bustier may best come in the form of a gift certificate so the lady may be properly measured and fitted.

Corsets
: Every fashionable lady loves a good corset as it may be worn both in the bedroom and around town. Ornate corsets can run in the thousands, but a great multi purpose corset should not be a reason to tap into your savings account. Charlotte Russe is currently showing loads of corsets in the $15 to $50 range. And guys, you can never go wrong with a classic black or white palette. The pink pleather may seem fun in the spur of the moment, but it may be a one-off fantasy.

Negligee or Baby Doll: Negligee comes from French literally meaning
neglect. Today the word seems to be synonymous with expensive. The negligee is the traditional night gown associated with the boudoir and the baby doll is the shortened version. But just because it's almost  Valentine's Day and you're a last minute shopper doesn't mean you should neglect your smart spending habits. Victoria's Secret is always reliable to find a size and look you are searching for. Plus, we've got a
$15 off $100 Victoria's Secret coupon code. But if the chain store just won't do, we  recommend checking out one offs on Etsy like the vintage inspired negligee shown here by designer Empress Jade.

Teddy
: A teddy is not just a bear, but also a stylish one piece. It's also not just for a Farah Fawcett throw back look any more. Glamorous Amorous is showing a multiple of detailed and flattering affordable gifts. If you're a man doing the shopping you might not be able to beat the brick and mortar experience where a sales agent will be able to help guide you to a classy piece with a just a little description of what your lady likes.

If you're going to venture to get a gift as personal as lingerie, think about your gift recipient. Do they love the touch and feel of cotton, or are they a leashes and lace kind of lady? Generally, less is more. Frills and bows are both great, but opt for one or the other. Don't be afraid to ask for advice from an online sales person or a brick and mortar sales clerk. If all else fails, everyone loves a gift card.
