Last week we posted about how we are already loading up with Halloween deals. It's not surprising that Halloween is now celebrated year-round given our current fascination with all things vampire (Twilight, True Blood, The Vampire Diaries). Even zombies have risen from the undead with recent flicks like 28 Weeks Later, Quarantine and Planet Terror swarming the multiplexes.

MainStreet recently posted about the vampire and zombie craze saying:

"In case you've been too busy playing with troll dolls and collecting angels to notice, vampires and zombies have been locked in a pop culture death match lately -- with corporations and Hollywood studios struggling to catch up. It's not just your brains and blood they want, but every dollar and waking minute you have left."

With all of the Halloween movies and TV shows coming up in the next two months, you're bound to get into the Halloween spirit. Movies like Zombieland, Halloween 2, and Jennifer's Body will definitely send chills down your spine and, in some cases, make you laugh.

But enough about movies, let's talk video games. Why watch Will Smith battle zombie mutants when you can experience the vicarious thrill of annihilating the undead via a video game?

Here are my picks for three of the best zombie/vampire games series out there.

  • Resident Evil: If you haven't heard of the Resident Evil series you've probably never played a video game. It's basically a game where you run around shooting zombies. The living dead will jump out of dark corners attempting to get just one bite your sweet flesh while you attempt to survive the night. The newest addition to the series, Resident Evil 5, got excellent reviews from nearly every video game review service around.

  • Left 4 Dead: Left 4 Dead isn't quite a series yet, but a sequel is in the works so I'm gonna let that slide. In this co-op survivor horror, you and three other survivors fight off zombies with all kind of weapons including Molotov cocktails (every video game should include Molotov cocktails--Pacman included). It won several awards for best game of 2008 and deservedly so. You can pick up a used copy for Xbox 360 or PC from for about $23 with one of our Gamestop coupons.

  • Castlevania: Maybe zombies aren't your thing. Maybe you'd rather attempt to save the world from vampires--specifically Dracula. Equipped with a whip that drains the life of your enemies, the Castlevania series has been one of the most celebrated console games of all time. You can download older versions of the game to your PS3, Wii, or Xbox 360 or you can wait for the new version to come out. That's right, a new version is currently being developed for the Xbox 360 and PS3. You can gawk at the new Castlevania trailer until it finally comes out.

If that wasn't enough for you, Fidgit had a top 10 list of the greatest zombie games of all time. Some other games worth checking out include, Bloodrayne (vampire game), Dead Rising (fight zombies in a mall), Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines (vampire RPG).

Hope you enjoy playing these horror games during this Halloween season, and even after. Let us know in the comments section what you favorite zombie or vampire game is! And for more video game news and deals, follow me @YasarSavings on Twitter.
