Picking up where
last week's blog left off, this week we take a look at further goings on in the world of gaming. As always, the emphasis is on lowered costs, breakdown of bonuses per price and some ridiculous price points to ridicule and bemoan for good measure. As always, your savings mileage may vary.
CrysisFollowing up on the console success of the recently released (
back in March) Crysis 2 FPS is news that the original PC game that started the hit franchise is coming to consoles as well. Expected to be delivered in a cost effective and unique way,
Crysis will be available for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in October. It will come in the form of a remastered digital download priced at 1,600 Microsoft points or (
in layman's terms) $19.99 for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Netflix and Video GamesAs Peter reported in his post,
Netflix recently split off their disc delivery division forming the new company
Qwikster. So now Netflix is in the video game rental business and poised to go head-to-head with
Gamefly. The competition should be great for gamers looking to get the best deals on new and used game rentals. The official
Netflix blog explains the launch of Qwikster and how Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3 game titles play into the service. No official word on pricing yet, but expect them to set up some incentives to lure people away from the aforementioned Gamefly.
More Playstation Vita News to Shake a Stick AtAnd shake a stick you will, because some of this pricing is flat out ridiculous. The execs at
Sony have now released the
pricing for the Vita's memory cards and several accessories. Since the Vita will support a lot of downloadable games, memory will be a huge issue with the portable system. A charging cradle to boost the battery on the unit will run $36.
The memory unit breakdown and cost is as follows:
- 4GB = $29
- 8GB = $42
- 16GB = $72
- 32GB = $124
That's right...
$124! If the outcry is great enough, maybe some of these prices will get lowered in time for the European and US launches. But I'm not a big fan of holding my breath, so for now I'm off the Vita bandwagon and content to just save up for the PS4. It will probably be cheaper in the end.
That's the roundup for this week folks. Next week we get back to reviews.
Deus Ex: Human Revolution anyone?
