One of the benefits of living in Santa Monica is its proximity to the ocean lends itself to more temperate weather during the hot summer months. Unlike Valley residents, beach dwellers can usually keep cool through the use of fans rather than more expensive and energy draining A/C.
While I'm a proponent of the basic box fan, there are more decorative alternatives for those who prefer form to function. I bring you
Deco Breeze fans which combines both form AND function.
Why settle for a fan that looks like...well, a fan, when you can generate a cool breeze with a fan that looks like a
Sea Turtle. At $84.99, it's a bit more pricey than a sturdy Vornado, but can a Vornado add this much pizzazz to your living room decor? I think not. There's also a crab version for $89.95 and--if you're looking to economize--a Sea Lion for a mere $49.99. Or maybe you'd prefer a
feline fan or
whimsical gecko. Snow owl, doggie, flamingo, horse--hey, there's even a Decor Breeze fan that looks like a...
regular fan.
Whoa--that's meta...
The figurine fans are mainly for show as most come with only an on/off switch and that's about it. But with the option of a
Surfer Dog, what more do you want?
What do you think? Would you prefer to keep cool with a ceiling fan or a Deco Breeze Squirrel fan?
I prefer A/C but hey, that's just me. I think if I had that turtle fan in my bedroom, was in a half-awake half-sleep state I'd probably scream. It's not everyday you have a giant turtle in your room.

I think some of those are pretty cool-looking, especially the hummingbird. But they're a little pricey for what they are. I might invest in one if I was redecorating my apartment or something, but for now, my functional-but-not-cute fan works just fine.
