Wacky Product of the Week: Star Trek USB Communicator

I don't know about you, but I loves me some Star Trek. I used to think it was just a crappy television show from way back when, but if you actually give it a chance it's a great social commentary. Of course, you have to look past the crazy shenanigans of Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock (and I'm more a fan of Data from The Next Generation to be honest), the bad costumes and even cheaper props, but it really is a great show.

Even though you may not be able to literally beam up, you will definitely get a kick out of our wacky product of the week this week: the Star Trek USB Communicator. Straight out of Starfleet and headed to a computer desk near you for a minimal $30 from ThinkGeek.

ThinkGeek always has kitschy and nerdy stuff on sale, but this week it just killed me. An actual Star Trek communicator? Complete with the "chirp" sound when you flip it open? The only thing that could have made this better was if there was a video to go along with it to see it in action--but alas, just a couple nerds nerding around with a goofy Trek ending in the ThinkGeek companion video.

At any rate, this gadget actually lets you communicate! And while you may not be able to get a hold of Starfleet with this communicator, you can definitely chat with your friends over such 21st Century staples as Skype, AIM, iChat, MSN and more. There's a built-in microphone and speakers and this bad boy plays 20 additional sounds besides the infamous chirp.

The perfect gift for any Trekkie, wouldn't you say?
