Wacky Product of the Week: Yin Yang Bunk Beds

Welcome once again to my weekly trip into the land of wacky products and strange doodads. (Put the dictionaries down, it's a word.) This week I answer the question, "Can a product look both cool and uncomfortable at the same time?" The answer, yes, especially if the item in question is the Yin Yang bunk-bed which debuted at the Milan Furniture Fair this year.

The bunk beds, as you can see from the picture above, are perfectly named as they are circular in nature and shaped to resemble the traditional Yin and Yang symbol. Just how comfortable the beds are I couldn't say. But, from a cursory glance, I'd venture to guess that sleeping in one of these for extended periods of time would not be good for your back. But I'm no back specialist so don't quote me on that. There is also the question of just how do you get to the top bunk.

There doesn't seem to be a ladder, so I'm guessing you'll need to work on your ups and jump to the top. Too bad for the kid (read: 10-45 year old male) who is incredibly uncoordinated. Nonetheless it looks awesome and sometimes that's all that matters. Another point of interest is that the bed is an eco-friendly combination of wood and metal.

Like I said, it looks cool, but I'm not sure I would want to actually sleep in one. What do you guys think about the Yin Yang bunk beds? Too cool for school or too quirky for you?
