Maternity Clothes from Forever 21?
Ahh… the joys of pregnancy. Expanding waistlines, swollen body parts, stretchmarks, nausea and not being able to see your own feet. I remember being pregnant in the hot summer of 2000 wondering why the heck most maternity clothing was so boring and unflattering.
Back then, there were 2 major lines, Mimi Maternity and A Pea In A Pod. I rather liked the latter’s style, but it was so expensive. I bought a dress from them and it was about $150! Yeah, I know–muy expensivo. But, it was worth it. I wore that dress at least 20 times during the summer, to weddings, parties, whatever, you name it. Black jersey with stretch was the way to go! Believe me, you need the stretch fabric. Let’s fast forward ten years and enter the new maternity line from Forever 21 maternity line. Yep, you heard me right. The highly successful discount retailer known for cute and trendy clothing aimed at women from teens to late 20s is entering the maternity field. Why, you may ask? Personally, I think it’s a fabulous idea. I’m jealous they weren’t around when I was spending $150 on a dress.
We all know that Forever 21 clothing doesn’t last forever. But, are you going to be pregnant forever? You only need maternity clothing starting in your second trimester. They have jeans for under $15 and tops starting at $12.80. And, if you aren’t into the maternity styles, you can always buy stuff from their regular line. Just get it in a bigger size. At about $15 a pop, I promise, you will come out with tons of cute stuff under $100.
Here are some other tips to help get your through your pregnancy in style and savvy:
- Oversized tees. Get a bunch of them, pair them with leggings from Destination Maternity and you’ve got a style that is comfy, yet cute. If you don’t like leggings, buy yoga pants instead. I find them more flattering than leggings due to their slight flare at the bottom.
- Dresses. This one is easy. Dresses are flow-y, cute, and can go from day-to-evening with a quick change of hair and make-up. Add some accessories and you’re good to go. The “little” black dress is a staple. Wrap dresses, empire waists and jersey stretch styles are best. Check out Victoria’s Secret for some jersey styles on sale right now. Gap also has a cute maternity line with many dresses.
- Swimwear. I’m sure many of you find bikini season daunting with the belly. But, I’ve seen so many pregnant women flaunting the belly, so if you’re confident with that, do it! If not, Old Navy has several cute tankinis to help with your wardrobe needs. You can get a set for under $25.
Of course, one of my favorite stores, Target has a great maternity department. While you are buying essentials for baby, stop by the clothing section and pick up a little something for yourself.
