Halloween Costume Ideas 2011 and Other Ways to Celebrate and Save

Halloween is just a little over a week away and soon enough the trick or treaters will be rapping upon your door.  Haven’t stocked up on Snickers bars and candy corn or figured out what to wear yet?  Never fear, the Blog & Save is here to help! Just a while back, Susan posted about cheap or free kids Halloween costume ideas and Woody came up with a list of costume ideas for guys which could be accomplished mainly with a pair of hair clippers.  If you don’t happen to win one of the five $100 Halloween Express gift cards we’re giving away this week, you can always check out our list of last minute Halloween costume ideas for kids–or ideas for that last minute Halloween costume for that Halloween bash you were invited to.  For costume ideas NOT to emulate, check out our list of Halloween costumes that make Toddlers and Tiaras look non-exploitative by comparison.

According to last year’s Halloween infographic, candy treats comes in second on the list of Halloween spending.  You can follow Juliana’s advice for healthier Halloween candy options or indulge in some homemade Halloween goodies courtesy of the Silicon Valley Blogger of The Digerati Life.  After your Halloween haul is complete, check out Annika’s tips for recycling Halloween candy.

Of course almost as important as a bowl full of fun-sized treats is the perfect Halloween pumpkin.  Juliana recently blogged about how to make sure you pick the right one for your needs plus check out her post on how to roast pumpkin seeds to make sure you get the maximum use out of your purchase.  Annika’s post on quick and easy pumpkin recipes is a good resource as well.

Planning a Halloween party?  Juliana has a post on how to do one for under $30!  Plus check out her post on easy Halloween party drinks which is sure to add some festive flair to your spooky soiree.

Alan of How to Save Money posted some great advice on “How to Give Good Halloween” and Susan outlines some important Halloween safety tips.

Reuse your Halloween costume the following year. You can add a few new accessories to it or even create something different with the materials. This will help you save money from having to buy a whole new costume.
