Battered and bruised from our attempts to gain access into a high-security conference or two, the Guy and Yasar show stumbles back to blogland to bring the info dump-age to you, our loyal fans. This week (with initial shipments hitting retailers such as Best Buy already) we wanted to take a look at the new Apple iPhone 4. Since neither of us happened to be recently sitting in a bar next to an absent-minded Apple employee, we don't actually have iPhones in hand to break down and review.

What we do have are an army of links, details and info from various reputable sites around the web.

Guy: Wired magazine recently took a look into the guts of the iPhone 4 to see just how well it stacks up. Actually Wired's Gadget Lab article collects various iPhone tear-downs and peaks behind the tech curtain from around the web to give us an idea of just what all the fuss is about. Apparently iPad users can stop being envious of the new toy on the block as their machine is proving to be the faster of the two devices.

Side note: Is it me or when you look at that pic of Steve Jobs above do you also hear the music from The Omen playing in your head? Damien, ah, ah, Sanguis Bibimus...ahem. Anyway, back on topic.

In a bit of news today, PCmag.com reports that Apple has delayed shipments of the white iPhone 4 just as customers are anticipating the new model's release this Thursday:
"White models of Apple's new iPhone 4 have proven more challenging to manufacture than expected, and as a result they will not be available until the second half of July," Apple said. "The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected."
Many have already received notification that their regular black iPhone orders are on the way. According to Apple, iPhone 4 pre-order numbers indicate it's basically already a success:
"Apple said that customers had placed more than 600,000 pre-orders for iPhone 4 on the first day the device was made available, making it the most successful product launch in Apple's history."
Premature pats on the back aside, all is not roses as Mashable is reporting that there are some issues with the new device:
"Several early iPhone 4 customers have discovered critical issues with the phone's display and reception that could pose major problems for Apple's newest mobile device.

Multiple Apple- and gadget-focused websites are receiving reports that the iPhone's much-discussed "Retina Display" is susceptible to a yellow discoloration, either as a thin line of yellow or as a circular tint.

That's not the only problem: there are now countless videos online that show how holding the new iPhone by its sides can decrease reception quality."

Hopefully these issues get resolved quickly as the new phone is debuting as we speak. Just to stay positive for now, here's Yasar with all the hot new bells and whistles.

Yasar: The new iPhone 4 (originally referred to as the iPhone 4G, for 4th generation not a reference to the 4G wireless network) comes with several great new features.  It reads comic books, plays too many video games and doesn't have a driver's license.  Oh wait, that's Guy.  The iPhone is actually more productive than Guy.  It features an A4 processor which Apple claims is "a remarkably powerful yet remarkably power-efficient mobile processor."

Here's a quick rundown of its new features:
  • FaceTime calls: This let's you have a video call with any other person with an iPhone 4.  The downside?  You need to be connect to a strong WiFi connection to get a decent connection and the other person has to also have an iPhone 4.
  • New Screen: The iPhone 4 features the best screen ever made for a mobile device.  'Nuff said!
  • HD Video Recording: If Guy had an iPhone, he'd use it to shoot his upcoming movie Sexy Guy.  It's about a super hero who seduces his enemies into submission with his sex appeal.  It stars Guy.
Those are the the biggest things Apple has been bragging about.  Two of the biggest obstacles keeping the iPhone 4 from being the best phone around (although still arguably is the best phone) are that it will still not feature flash (Droid does) and you still have to stick with AT&T.

So who is caught up in iPhone fever (again) and who is just waiting for something better like the HTC Evo on a 4G network like myself. Pledge your allegiance to the corporate giant of your choosing in the comments section below.
