Long Lasting Makeup Tips
Having oily skin was always a problem when I apply makeup, and an even bigger problem getting it to stay put throughout the day. When I’m really busy or having a blast at a party, the last thing I want to have to think about is whether I need to touch up my face.
Regardless of your skin type, these are some products to help keep you looking flawless for those long days or nights: Preparing your skin is the first and most important step for not only making your makeup last longer, but to keep it looking good. Always make sure your skin is clean and allow your moisturizer some time to be fully absorbed into the skin. Use a primer to create a smooth surface for foundation and increase the longevity of your makeup. Hard Candy’s Sheer Envy is pretty cheap at $8 and works really well. Keep your eyeshadow looking vibrant and eliminate creasing with an eye primer. The coveted Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer claims to last over 24 hours and will never crease.
Stila Cherry Crush — A long-lasting cheek stain that can also be used on the lips — I just love multi-purpose products. It has a nice rosy flush on the cheeks and gives the lips a soft red color. $24
Revlon 12-Hour Eyeshadow — This is a really good, inexpensive powder eye shadow with staying power. There are lots of shades to choose from and each one comes with four different colors. $5.49
M.A.C. Face and Body Foundation — A water-based, water-resistant foundation that provides long-lasting, natural coverage for face and/or body. It comes in a wide range of shades and provides sheer, natural looking coverage in an easy to blend, water-resistant formula. Once it’s set, it doesn’t rub off on clothes. It may be a little pricey at $34.50, but it comes in a big 4 ounce bottle.
L’Oreal Infallible Never Fail Lip Color — They really do last about 16 hours. Apply the lip color, wait about a minute, then apply the moisturizing balm. The key to making them stay on is applying it on smooth, exfoliated lips. I own about five different shades and they truly are a long wearing, waterproof lip color. $12
Sometimes these products don’t always live up to what they promise, so be prepared with these in case you need a quick-fix:
Palladio Rice Papers — Use one side to blot any oil and shine away, then the other side to dust on some powder. Besides breath mints, this is one to always have handy in your clutch. $5.50
i.d. On the Spot Makeup Remover — If your eye makeup starts to smudge, just whip out one of these cotton swabs (they come individually wrapped). You just crack it open and the swaps fill up with a makeup remover solution. $5
Shiseido Concealer Stick — This is a great concealer for when you’re on-the-go and need a touch up. It covers really well and is super lightweight. $26.50
